Forums - Movies & TV - Godzilla vs Kong

I saw this cause my boyfriend wanted to watch it together with me so after marathoning the previous three monsterverse films right before I saw it the day it came out and it was dumb and didn't make any sense and I really enjoyed it. Easily the best out of the four films due to how much they embrace the silliness while also having the best action in the series and also some nice character stuff with Kong and the little girl. I was rooting for him so it hurt a bit to him see him lose to Godzilla but he got the kill at the end on MG so it's all good. Art piece films are important but stuff like this where you can watch a giant lizard and gorilla fight each other before teaming up to fight a giant robot lizard are just as important. Also as an anime fan I got really happy when the beam struggle happened since I love seeing shit like that.

Damn fun movie !

I wish Pacific Rim 3 was happening even more now as it was supposed to crossover into the Monsterverse. I'd love to see a Jaeger fight with Godzilla another monster. Too late for Mechagodzilla tho.

This is the closest I could find to a whimsical Godzilla with fairies.

So you've never heard of Mothra vs. Godzilla before? Or any of the Mothra movies? You know, the island fairies who serve as Mothra's twin priestesses? ...And you call yourself a fan!

(Not that I don't enjoy the short before Godzilla 1985 you highlighted mind you. )

Team Godzilla.

Spoiler!

He absolutely fucked Kong up, as he should have, I'm glad they didn't do a draw or leave it open to interpretation, they gave a clear winner and I'm happy for that, I like Kong and felt kind of bad for him but Godzilla will always be #1 to me.

Few things I disliked, they wasted Serizawa's son, what the hell was that? I didn't even know it was his son until right at the end of the movie, there was just no backstory to him or why he's so opposite to his father. Odd to waste Lance Riddick too, the human drama was blah but oh well.

The fights were amazing, very clearly shot this time around, Godzilla was so much faster in this compared to 14/KOTM which was awesome, he was like a wild animal when he started going feral on Godzilla and biting him/clawing him, I was just thinking "Goddamn" Lol.

Then MechaGodzilla comes along and fucks Godzilla up, dragging the poor lad through buildings, it was amazing...but then it was ruined when humanity saved the day by pouring frigging whiskey on a super advanced high tech piece of equipment and saving Kong's life, giving him the opportunity to put down MechaG, that really soured me on the final fight, it was just too dumb and just an excuse to give humans a contribution to the fight, I don't care who gets the final blow but it should have been solely Kong/Godzilla tag teaming to put MechaGodzilla down.

Really hope the Monsterverse continues, I want...

  • Kong: The Hollow Earth.
  • Godzilla vs MechaGhidorah or Godzilla vs Biolantte or both.
  • Destroy All Monsters: Godzilla, Kong, Mothra, Anguirus vs Destroyah.

Want to see Legendary's version of Anguirus, Gigan, Megalon, Battra, MechaGhidorah, Biolantte, Destoroyah, etc. I want more Mothra and Rodan too, some of these could be discovered in Hollow Earth, maybe shoved in as side threats on certain movies but Godzilla needs his Anguirus bro.

Yeah I would absolutely love to see the likes of Biollante, Anguirus, and Destoroyah brought to life with modern technology; I thought they did such an amazing job with King Ghidorah for example.

I'd also love to see some all new kaiju; the MUTOs from the 2014 film I really liked, they were a cool design with great vocal effects and a real air of alien creepiness.

Saw the movie in theaters and was the first time i went in a whole year. It was a really great experience. Probably bonified from like haven't been in a long time but it was great. I really think this is a movie you should go see in theaters

I wanted to see a giant ape fight a dinosaur. And there was a decent amount of giant ape dinosaur fighting so that was cool.

But unfortunately there was a lot of stuff that wasn't giant ape dinosaur fighting. And those parts were really boring. They didn't make me care more about the people in those parts, and didn't even make me care more about the giant ape dinosaur fighting.

I know you can't just sell a movie that's a 15 minute giant ape dinosaur fight, but really, why not? If this had just been 15 minutes of that, I would not have enjoyed it less. If anything, just the opposite.

I'm not sure many people would pay for a movie ticket just to see a 15 minute fight without context.

I'm sure they wouldn't, but I question why not. Honestly, the rest of the stuff was pretty boring and really not worth the time I spent watching it.

It's like paying for a burger and a plateful of green peppers (or insert a food that you dislike) that you'd have to eat, vs paying for just the burger.

Well, speaking just for myself as a kaiju fan who watches the films primarily for the monsters, I still prefer them to come packaged in a full length movie to give the monsters context and establish the world and story around them. I didn't find the human drama in this particular film very compelling but I'm still glad there was some to provide a setup, otherwise it would've felt rather disconnected and incomplete.
