Forums - Gaming Discussion - console wars are getting nasty

I dont think console wars is the issue here, Twitter is the problem here. You can just say blue is your favorite color and there will be some doxing your family for you not choosing red.

Twitter is probably the most toxic of the mainstream social media sites. Which is why I deleted my account a couple of weeks ago.

I was there...the Twilight Princess 8.9 Gamespot riots. So many bans, salt and rage for weeks. Lol what a time.

Also the launches were pretty bad too forum wise

People rioted over an 8.9? That's not even a bad score, and Gamespot are well known for being tough reviewers compared to most of the other major gaming publications/sites. I could maybe understand fanboy riots if they gave it like a 6/10 when the meta was 95/100, but rioting over an 8.9? smh

How did the fanboys cope when Jim Sterling gave BOTW a 7/10 because he hated the weapon durability system? Slant gave BOTW a 6/10 review as well.

The pendulum keeps swinging. Digital Foundry was bias against Xbox back in 2013. Then they were bias against PS when Xbox X outperformed PS4 Pro. They hated PS when Series X better optimized last gen titles compared to PS5. Now they hate Xbox because of next gen launch comparisons. And if (yes I said if just in case) Series X devs get used to the late SDK and multiplats favor Xbox in the future Digital Foundry will be accused of being against Sony.

It’s funny and ridiculous when you think about it. But god damn it’s hard to look away. Like seeing a car crash.

I don't think they were being bias.

They were stating facts and going with the evidence.

In 2013 the Xbox One was soundly beaten by the Playstation 4's technical credentials, in 2017 the Xbox One X beat the Playstation 4 Pro's technical credentials and digital foundries narrative matched those findings.

Digital foundry also tends to backup it's assertions with empirical evidence with commentary that breaks down the technicals so those who aren't tech-heads can get a grasp of how things work.

Digital Foundry doesn't hate the Xbox Series X, they haven't made that statement, if anything they have gone on record multiple times on how much of a fantastic platform it is.

People need to take a chill pill. All the consoles are fantastic platforms, they all have their Pro's and Con's. Brand loyalty has always baffled me, these companies will never send you cake and flowers for your birthday, so why the loyalty?

I guess people confuse changes in time and relevance to Bias.

Because during gen 7, even small differences in resolution was blow out as very relevant but after the first few titles on gen 8 it was said that resolution wasn't that important anymore (and peope considered that a change to favor Xbox, while it actually had more to do with after moving to 1080p the resolution was mostly fine anyway and framerate was what mattered), and now they are saying framerate doesn't matter as much because of VRR and the like but again that is because the important thing now is solid 30fps with solid 60fps being a big plus and 120fps being just something consoles really shouldn't be bothering yet.

People need to remember that at least since PS4Pro DF said that their checkerboard upscale was almost as good as native.

So for me sure it could seem as bias for MS, but seems more like they are moving the goalposts because the goals were achieved on what was important so they moved to another metric, and will keep moving as industry changes focus and the previous metric becomes irrelevant because it was already achieved good enough.

I'll have you know Sony always sent me cake and flowers on my birthday, but now its stopped.

I blame DF, I'm sure they stole my presents and are producing a bake off episode titled who makes the best console shaped cakes and it will go something like this.

Sony has the biggest cake and takes less time to bake than the MS cake and also at a lower temp than the old PS4 cake, while MS cake has more ingredients in theirs, the icing on both tends to be locked at 60 mil thick but can drop to as thin as 56 / 57 mil in places.

Footnote: MS also has a cupcake for those on a diet.

BTW Pem I still can't find matching socks.

I find modern console wars stupid. It's like Jack Johnson vs John Jackson. Both in hardware and games are nearly the same. Sony and MS get mostly the same games. Minus some exclusives but even that is a loose term now. Now I see people bickering and pointing fingers over white vs eggshell white. It's that Spider-Man meme of them pointing at one another. It's all so dull yet people freak out over this one if a few frames faster than 98% of the people could not tell with the naked eye anyway. DF is biased because the game ran slightly better on this system or the other. Get real.

Genesis vs SNES vs TG16 is still the best console wars generation. Genesis was the best for action games/shooters/sports. SNES excelled at some of the best RPGs ever and platformers and some good old Mode 7. TG16 had a little bit of everything in genres but mostly exclusive to it. Each system was truly different from one another and excelled better in one genre or something else. TG16 had the best CD games that generation overall. Hardware was also truly different from one another. When they did share a game like Mortal Kombat. The differences were so obvious we did not need a video zoomed in on pixels. I'd say the last true console war was the 6th gen. Console wars only really meant anything when the hardware and libraries were truly different. Not 80-90% the same. So all there is left these days is are you loyal to a logo and little else. Nintendo while could def fix some things about their systems. They are the last ones doing anything different.
