wow this guy never gets old
Miyamoto is absolutely right. I finished Radiant Dawn recently. In fact, I probably game on more obscure titles than 95 percent of this forum for more hours a day, not necessarily bragworthy, but I've always had something good to play on my Wii that I enjoyed.
So yeah.
Again, the hardcore titles on the Wii are just harder to find. You can't talk about hardcore without Radiant Dawn being the first word out of your mouth, though.
Most of you guys against this article have some deep seeded resentment towards Nintendo. Let me remind you, I laugh myself to sleep everynight after I check the sales charts, because I know your dreams of a "comeback" are slowly slipping away.
Anyway, it's absolutely silly to say, "I hate you and your casual games, Nintendo" when realistically, the Wii already has a better first party lineup for the core gamer than the cube did.
Calling Miyamoto's ramblings "PR spin" just shows that you might be a little ignorant of the actual meaning of PR, Miyamoto himself, how Nintendo works, and certainly inability to show the proper respect, Riot.
Come on, Riot, jeebus. Flame Miyamoto? You smoking crack? Sometimes I think you make posts just to seem controversial, because they seem grim parodies of the real, dumber, and more timid, actual anti-Nintendo "fanbase" comment.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.
| Super Mario Galaxy: Yes, awesome game. Yes, definitely a revival of a dead genre. But in all honesty, I consider this to be the most borderline of all of Nintendo's big releases thus far. Okay Mario was never about a gritty story or mature themes, my issue is difficulty. It's not hard to beat this game, it's not even hard to hit 100 stars, 120 it gets a little tougher but nothing like certain Mario 64 stars. |

personally it seems that ninty has released three hardcore games. zelda, prime, and smash (maybe super paper mario). those games are loved by their fans. zelda is still zelda, never played a prime, but smash has been casualized. it still has amazing depth, but its slower and more floaty. it is also broken (ic chain grab).
galazy is casual, mario kart is casual. they have depth, but they are casual games. ninty has always been casual to midcore with lots of depth. its jsut that their fans are freaking out because they are becoming more casual than ever.
All the top selling games this generation have been casualized. And when mean I top selling I mean three million and up sells on cosoles except rpgs.I think anything that has better multiplayer experience than single player experience should be casual. Halo,Call of Duty, Warhawk,SSBB, all have been casualized and nobody complains about the first three only about nintendos games. Let me ask the would still buy those games if they didn"t have multiplayer which I consider a casual aspect that evryone overlooks.
I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !
| Riot Of The Blood said: This guy is full of shit, and it pisses me off that he always lies about this. He keeps on saying this, but then Nintendo never produces. Super Mario Galaxy was so linear and easy compared to past 3d Mario game's. The controls and level design was way too simple and primitive. What happen to us having to actually use our brains in Mario games? The game never put us in a position where we had to figure any thing out. They could have put some effort into Smash Brothers' online as well. Most of the time the game is unplayable in random matches, due to lag and just not working at all sometimes. I don't see how any of this is hardcore friendly. Core gamers want and respect quality gameplay. That's all it takes to please true core gamers. |
I knew riot was going to be banned for this post.

I've never played a Fire Emblem game, but nearly half a million sales is nothing to sneeze at, and shows there is a market for hardcore game on the Wii (since SRPG is one of the most hardcore genres, and FE is one of the oldest SRPG series, if not the oldest).
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs
Yeah, it's my favorite Wii game. :P

I'd call it the oldest series...
Oldest game... i'd give to Ultima Exodus but i don't think any other Ultima game used it's system. Some other strategy games had some rudementry exp gains i think.

Actually RPG:s changed towards more casual direction more than ten years ago, when storytelling went to videos. Interesting view about online, but can be considered as truth when you think of it. @Ajax: So, who the Nintendo core audience is? The ones who have bought previous Nintendo games? The ones that have a Nintendo console? The thing is, i can imagine someone talking about "Nintendo core audience", but i have hard time to think any context to it. SMG is pointed more towards us, the older gamers, experienced gamers, who don't have the time to play like we had 20 years ago as kids. It's controls aren't that easy to learn, the game has a lot to do (a lot of stars), you can even improve your highscore and compete your friends highscore, the game is rather challenging than easy (sure, beating the game with 60 stars is the easy quarter of the game). SMG is also more challenging (and larger) than Sunshine, so in that comparision, Nintendo definately is going more towards "hardcore", while MP3 was made more "casual" (or, actually towards the taste of people who usually call themselves "hardcore"). Twilight Princess was definately made more casual than previous 3D Zeldas, but it's understandable considering the level of graphics and the size of the game that had to fit to one GC gamedisc, so the game is more linear most likely because of that (again, a "casual" choice, that fits the people, calling themselves "hardcore", taste). The art of Nintendos games is their appeal to both, "hardcore" and "casuals". Easy to learn, pick up and play, but still are hard to master and have a lot of things to do. Nintendo has never been "casual" orientated developer and never will be. They tend to make games for the most demanding audience, without forgetting that other people will play the game too.
