Forums - Nintendo - Why don't people talk about the Switch as much as Xbox or PS?

And gamers are not? We were talking about a market that sells over 200 million dedicated gaming hardware every 6 years, surely it's enough to label gamers as ""general audience""

About my point, I'm completely aware kiddos and people over their 50 DGAF about sales and stuff, but neither does people from their 20-30. Most of gamers have no idea what are the best selling consoles, the best selling games and can't explain in details what are the specs running behind the hardware they are playing

People who fight in fanwars on social media and follow sales are a very specific and niche part of gaming industry even for ""mature"" platforms like Xbox and Playstation

Again,I was specific, citing the the below 18 age demographics as I intended to exclude the adults who love to argue about sales and specs of a console on the internet. But you cited the moviegoers as an example. You have to be specific also with the kind of moviegoers with the kind of movie they love to watch.

Here:

Moviegoers=general audience regardless of age in ALL WALKS OF LIFE

Children who love animated film=specific audience who do not read movie reviews on the internet

Now, to make the story short, there are many Switch owners out there who are children who only want to play video games and find no time for console debates on the internet. Do I have numbers? No, I don't have but the sales of Pokemon and Animal Crossing speak for it.

Do PS fans and XBox fans love debates about specs? Exclusives? Features? Price? Sales? Acquisitions? Yes, they do and they love to argue endlessly.

With that, I rest my case.

I rest my case

Needs more killer games. I wish they'd invest in new franchises.

I'm pretty sure people talk about switch just as much as Xbox or Ps. Animal crossing was the most tweeted about game during the first half of the year.

Comments on social media isn't "talking". That's typing.

Wish they would invest in old franchises like fzero and advance wars.   Nintendo has more franchises than microsoft and sony combined.

What is SocMed? Social Medicine? We are discussing your first assertion, "A large portion of Switch owners are below 18 years old and they just want to play games."

The first graph clearly shows how things stood at 2017 in the US:

  • 10% 15 and under;
  • 7% in the 16-18 bracket;
  • 20% in the 19-24 bracket;
  • 43% majority in 25-34 bracket;
  • 20% for the 35+.

The second graphic only shows from 18 years old onward, so you can take the subsection of adult gamers from the first graph. Even then the change between Q2 2017 to Q4 2018 shows an increase in the 18-24 and 35-44 ranges, the demographics then increased relatively more in between these ages.

A demographic already existed in 2017 with an 83% for the 19+ gamers, you cannot wipe these off when your so defined "kiddie" games release to go inline with your assumptions. The first graph I posted was the US demographics for 2020 for all gamers, and it also has a similar figure of 21% for the kiddos. Sorry to break your assumption that a large portion of Switch owners are under 18 when it is only around 20% which similar to the overall gaming landscape.

You should have said instead that, "A large portion of Switch owners are 30+ years old that don't care about social media."

So you assumed that my "large" argument meant majority? We are talking here about tens of millions of Switch owners. Twenty percent of 67 million is 13.4 million. These owners do not comprise the majority but 13.4 million is a portion too small for you? Do you think a 13 year old gamer would bother himself in a discussion in SocMed (Medicine if that's what you want) about console wars like we usually do here on this site? Maybe a little portion of those who are 16 or 17 do what we do but generally speaking, they do not care.

Now back to the thread, it stated that despite its blockbusters sales, netizens hardlly talk about Switch as much as XB or PS. Don't you think these 13M+ Switch owners can not make an impact in social media if they become active regarding console stuffs and make Switch go neck and neck with XB and PS in terms of internet buzz?

Let me see if I follow your reasoning:

- First, you say the reason why Switch is less present on social media is because a large portion of owners are under 18 years old and younglings don't do social media about consoles. This implies people over 18 do more of the social media talking and that Switch's share of adults is lower the PS/XB for your statement to make sense.

- Then through a series of posts, we get the confirmation that the Switch does have a majority of owner being adults. Those very people you claim do the social media talking so that would mean it should get its fair share of social media activity.

- Now you say that by large portion, you meant the 20% all along, which is a lot of people (it is!) but that's also comparable to the ratio for other consoles so that would make your initial reasoning faulty as an explanation for the lower social engagement.

Signature goes here!

Because most gamers dont see switch as a direct competitor and also it is fun for them to get into console war between ps5 and xbox.

Because many Ninty users still have old versions of the sub-buttock chip implant that don't allow to talk yet.
