Tagged games:

This week's ratio is 39:1.

Also, imagine if you told someone back in October last year that Ring Fit would be topping the charts in September 2020.

I know I said it in November but can't remember if I said it any earlier than that.

Just goes to show not to discount something unconventional; I mean look at Fit Boxing, it's a million seller now, few people would've expected that to cross that mark.

I'm sensing a pattern for Switch mega hits in Japan:

March 2020 - Animal Crossing: New Horizons
March 2021 - Monster Hunter Rise

So I'm calling it now:

March 2022 - Dragon Quest XII (Switch & other platforms)

  • Ring Fit surpasses 1 million for the year, next week based on retailer anecdotal information I'm expecting >100K sales
  • Elsewhere Clubhouse moves up one spot in the rankings as it continues to sell very well heading into its first holiday season(should hit 1M LTD)
  • Super Mario 3D Collection should make the Top 5 games for the quarter, expecting this to be the 2nd biggest launch on the Switch in 2020
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will surpass >500K next week, last year it managed 628K for the year so we should see YoY growth
  • Splatoon 2 has surpassed 300K making it the 8th game to do so on the Switch this year, it did 378K so it should also see YoY growth
  • Finally, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon won't make the Top 10 once this Quarter wraps up, it should be replaced by SM3DC

  • Five games have surpassed 200K this quarter, we should end up with six because of Super Mario 3D Collection, MK8D will fall just short.
  • This Quarter the only 3rd Party game in the Top 10 is Konami's eBaseball, game should finish with around 400K sales lifetime
  • Splatoon 2 and Smash have a decent chance to surpass 100K for the quarter if the final weeks of September coincide with huge hardware restocks

This wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.  Back when Paper Mario released sales for RFA and AC shot up.  Nintendo had a bunch of hardware available for the week that Paper Mario released, but people just used it to buy RFA and AC instead.  There should be a lot of hardware available for this 3D Mario collection.  It will be interesting to see what it does to the sales of other games.

Physical only. MHW digital was already near 700k in its first few weeks. The director later also said MHW was able to retain the JP audience from previous games, so I'm assuming its closer to 4 million than 3.5.

Can you read?

Combined Estimated Physical and Digital Sales: 2,859,784

Oh, but I see now its outdated sales. That's why. I assumed you posted recent sales info so thought it was physical only.

Those digital sales are only counting the first week or so.

You're going to have to link that comment from the director because as recently as July in Capcom's investor's report they admitted that MHW had not been as popular with the MH audience in Japan as they hoped and it was the reason the main NS was getting an MH project targeted at that group which we know is now not one but two ground up games for it this was in regards to whether a port of MHW was in the works for NS.

Nice spin. Try posting actual quotes from the interview like this:

Where Monster Hunter World is selling most regionally:

Q: Sales have greatly surpassed 10 million units, but regionally, where is the game selling the most?

A: The game is of course selling well in every region, but it’s doing especially well in North America. We’ve also maintained our sales numbers for Japan, which is a great result for us. We’ve been saying this since development, but we’ve wanted to welcome players coming to Monster Hunter for the first time, while still satisfying our current domestic audience, so we’re relieved that the game is being well received in both markets.

The way Hajimari no Kiseki is free falling , they should really consider a Switch port.

In case you wondered the Age of Calamity announcement had any effect:

17./18. [NSW] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild # (Nintendo) {2017.03.03} (¥6.980) - 4.575 / 1.645.625 <80-100%> (+14%)

Every other game is down week on week

Cute increase.

Top 30

Switch 23 (9 of which are third party)
PS4 7 (6 of which are third party)

This week Switch has 9/15 = 60% of third party games.  This makes 14 straight weeks were Switch had a majority of the third party games in Japan's top 30.  This year we can see both third party sales and third party support transfering over more and more to the Switch in Japan.  Also, we can see that for multiplat release of Metal Max Xeno Reborn, first week sales tend to slightly favor the PS4.  However, eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 has much better legs on the Switch, and we can probably assume something similar will happen with Metal Max Xeno Reborn in the coming weeks.

This week:
07./00. [PS4] Metal Max Xeno Reborn # <RPG> (Kadokawa Games) {2020.09.10} (¥6.480) - 7.789 / NEW <60-80%>
08./00. [NSW] Metal Max Xeno Reborn # <RPG> (Kadokawa Games) {2020.09.10} (¥6.480) - 7.277 / NEW <60-80%>

Week 27 (launch):
01./00. [NSW] eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 <SPT> (Konami) {2020.07.09} (¥6.980) - 94.876 / NEW <60-80%>
02./00. [PS4] eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 <SPT> (Konami) {2020.07.09} (¥7.980) - 91.547 / NEW <60-80%>

Week 37 (this week):
15./10. [NSW] eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 <SPT> (Konami) {2020.07.09} (¥6.980) - 5.097 / 220.172 <80-100%> (-30%)
25./20. [PS4] eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 <SPT> (Konami) {2020.07.09} (¥7.980) - 2.379 / 180.243 <80-100%> (-33%)
