People are saying this is emulation and not a port for Mario 64 so yeah, kinda lazy. Especially considering we know Nintendo has Mario 64's source code and could easily do what the gaming community has done with the source code on the Switch. To me, this collection seems very half-assed.

I'm not sure if this is simple emulation. They have upscaled the the HUD and added icons for the new buttons the Switch has (+. - and home)...

Yeah I just caught that. I guess the issue is, we're wondering why it isn't widescreen then. Some are bringing up the reason it isn't is because of how the game is programmed for the 64 in regards to how it renders objects. I can't imagine a scenario where this is a port of the OG source code but they decided against wide screen. Perhaps it's a hybrid of sorts. I'll be interested to see what they did when we get a hold of the rom.

Will Sunshine and 64 run 60FPS? does anyone know?

Saw a comment suggesting they are running at 24fps.  Don't know the sourch, but yeah I doubt it. This is a very low effort release.

I don't even think Sunshine ran at 24fps on release. I doubt that.

According to Gamexplain more details have been revealed. Galaxy's motion controls seem to be optional for single player and it seems Switch light users only need extra joycons if they want to add a player 2.

The more interesting news is that 3D World has full online multiplayer now. It's no longer confined to couch co-op. I don't understand how they can put this much effort into 3D World and so little into the collection, but there it is. It really seems they are doing everything right with 3D World.

Meh, not gonna be getting any of this. I figured MK9 was too good to be true the second I saw this existed, but I will say MK Live is a cool idea, I woulda loved that as a kid. The 3D Collection is disappointing, no visual upgrades and even though I don't like the Galaxy games, 2 should still be a part of this. 3D World was inevitable, good game but I already have it so no interest unless the Bowser thing is uber amazing. An actual new game woulda been nice to see but alas, just more old content. Whatever, I'll still live even if there's not a single new Nintendo game for the rest of the year.

Read my post above yours. If you have a better answer, I'd like to hear it xD

"- Put a timer on digital sales. Not too small, but small enough to make people worry. That together with the limited physical print will put even more pressure on fans to adquire the game even if they are not entirely convinced"

Getting people on the fence to panic buy it? Well if someone isn't convinced, waiting wouldn't really change much, right? Because Nintendo games tend to not drop in price. So I wonder how many people that would sway.
People who plan to buy a Switch later may look at this and consider buying it sooner if they're that interested in this game.

But limiting the sales of these games to just 6 months doesn't seem like a great idea, so perhaps they want to sell these games separately after that, and think it'll be more profitable that way.

If I'm remembering correctly, they similarly limited the production of All-Stars on the Wii (although they would have a re-release a few years later). Let's not forget that they're also limiting the release of that Battle Royale game to March 31 too.

It seems like it's just something they do.

Right, but I was looking for a reason.

It's not like they had a meeting about this and someone said "Oh and put a timer on it till next March" and when someone asked why, they responded "I dunno, it's just something we do."

After thinking about it, they wouldn't want to limit the sales of these games to just 6 months I'm sure, so one reason may be that they want to sell these games separately after March, and think it'll be more profitable that way.

As for the Battle Royale game, at first I got the impression that it would be free to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Similar to Playstation Plus monthly games, which just got Fall Guys for free.
But I imagine they would have mentioned the word free in that case, so probably not.

I mean, why does a fire burn? Why does the universe exist? Why do Kardashians date NBA players? Sometimes, nature just does things, y'know?

Nintendo might be doing this because they genuinely think this is a good way to celebrate their mascot, and the timed releases make it more "special." Or maybe there's some religious significance to these dates that eludes me. I suggest not looking further into it not because some executive(s) somewhere don't have a rationale, but because humans have a tendency to do irrational things based on their own cultural norms and values, which outsiders will never really "get." Think of that village in Britain that rolls a wheel of cheese down a hill so that a bunch of drunks can hurt themselves chasing after it. I've been following Nintendo for decades now: fuck me if I'll ever understand all their decisions.

Oh really now? I never did get to experience the multiplayer aspect of the game given my namesake, but eh, it's not like multiplayer really changes the experience. Still that's great, it's shoulda had online from the get go. Iirc Nintendo gave some bs reasoning as to why it didn't. Now let's hope it's not a lag fest like Mario Maker.

Someone at Nintendo finally realize 3D World is the better game

I would have honestly preferred a straight up remake of any of the three games to this collection, but this is what I was expecting all along. Though I do think they absolutely should've thrown SMG2 in as well if they're just porting, but I always found it highly skeptical Nintendo would ever give us 4 games like that in 1 package. And I called it that they wouldn't give us 3D World this year on top of that, too much risk for cannibalizing the sales with Mario oversaturation. On the plus side, it looks like I may be getting my wish for a sequel of sorts to 3D World with Bowser's Fury, and I couldn't be happier. 3D World definitely deserves a sequel, so underrated. This may not be a proper full blown sequel, but it seems like it could be kind of like a mini sequel, so I'll take it.

I think the biggest takeaway though is that they must still have something up their sleeve for the big holiday game this year, if it's not going to be anything Mario. I'm sure they could have gotten 3D World+ out in time if they didn't have anything else. Can't help but hope they will surprise us and say BOTW2 will be ready for launch this holiday after all.

There’s a pc port of Mario 64 running at 60fps with updated textures, that was obviously too much for nintendo who loves selling old games at full price, fans do what nintendon’t. And where’s galaxy 2 how is a 3D collection complete without galaxy 2, nintendo is Again full of themselves thanks to the switch’s success. The only positive I see is mario 3d w online co op.
