300k will probably be the baseline for the Switch until the holidays which means it should sell 17-18 million this year before the holiday sales begin. It'll outsell its entire 2017 and 2018 sales without November and December which is nuts.

Agreed, Switch should easily sell through over 25 millions this year. No doubt they will raise the forecast for the FY by a lot.

Well the Xbone only did around 25k in its launch week in Japan, so it seems unlikely that the series X launch will even beat a regular Switch sales week. But despite the decline of PS consoles in Japan, I think the PS5 could still have a quite strong launch if Sony supplies enough stock. PS4 and the Switch had about equally strong launch weeks in Japan after all.

it might, depends on how many ppl in japan actually care about PS anymore, epseically since most japanese devs arn't even going to bother making PS5 exclusive titles untill round year 2, if ever (since switch exists, might as well make ports for ps4 and switch). and since switch is selling as much as nintendo can stock it.... if the switch pro launched with BotW2 or something of similar calibur (say, monster hunter or DQ) it might have a shot.

sony basically gave up on the jp market when they made the decision to half ass vita support....

Well PS had already fallen from grace in Japan by the time the PS4 came out, with the PS3 selling half of what the PS2 did and the Vita having had weak start, and despite all that it sold 320k in its launch week without any huge titles. PS doesn't have as wide appeal any longer in Japan, but I think it still has some dedicated fans.

But it probably mostly comes down to stock though. We don't know how high demand will be when (and if) Nintendo launches a "Switch Pro", but if its anything like it is now then Nintendo would just sell exactly the amount that they ship for its debut. Would that be more than Sony ships (and can realistically sell) for the PS5 launch? If Sony continues to down-prioritize Japan like they have done with PS4 stock lately then for sure, otherwise its hard to tell.

Are we not going to mention that the Xbox One is now at 20k Global sales?
Sure Nintendo is smashing it, but this is expected as the Switch is in it's prime. PS4 at 120k is still good for a 7 year old machine at the end of it's life.

But let's focus in on that Xbox figure. That's not a good sign for them as they enter the next Gen war against Sony.

Sony want to make money by selling art, Nintendo want to make money by selling fun, Microsoft want to make money.

At this point it'll easily sell through over 26-27 this year it seems. I'm still hoping they do over 30 and become the first console to ever do that much in a year.

People learnt how Nintendo turned it around from Wii U to Switch. People on the internet learnt their lesson by not making doom threads for the new consoles. MS can also be in that situation. They seem to have learnt many mistakes from the Xbox One.

I'm just not sure they can actually make and ship 30 million. I think how much they sell this year will come down almost entirely to supply.

I think it's unlikely but the fact it's even being discussed as a possibility is really cool to me! To think people thought the upper limit for this year was gonna be 22-24 before.

If they want to they could, but it will depend on stock and what they will release this holiday and how aggressive they will be.

I'm laughing to die seeing 3DS outsold PS4 in Japan, what's wrong with Japanese?

Nothing's "wrong" with them, Sony just don't really cater to their tastes, focusing instead more on the West.

They were scorned by Sony releasing this:

Um... that dude looks like Ganandorf. Just saying.
