it might, depends on how many ppl in japan actually care about PS anymore, epseically since most japanese devs arn't even going to bother making PS5 exclusive titles untill round year 2, if ever (since switch exists, might as well make ports for ps4 and switch). and since switch is selling as much as nintendo can stock it.... if the switch pro launched with BotW2 or something of similar calibur (say, monster hunter or DQ) it might have a shot. sony basically gave up on the jp market when they made the decision to half ass vita support.... |
Well PS had already fallen from grace in Japan by the time the PS4 came out, with the PS3 selling half of what the PS2 did and the Vita having had weak start, and despite all that it sold 320k in its launch week without any huge titles. PS doesn't have as wide appeal any longer in Japan, but I think it still has some dedicated fans.
But it probably mostly comes down to stock though. We don't know how high demand will be when (and if) Nintendo launches a "Switch Pro", but if its anything like it is now then Nintendo would just sell exactly the amount that they ship for its debut. Would that be more than Sony ships (and can realistically sell) for the PS5 launch? If Sony continues to down-prioritize Japan like they have done with PS4 stock lately then for sure, otherwise its hard to tell.
