Is this pac-man actually good for Nintendo users/fans? As an example, this year we are only getting 1st Party ports. Who needs to work on new and high quality titles if we do not have conpetition?

Top 30

NSW 26 (10 of which are third party)
PS4 4 (3 of which are third party)

This week 10/13 = 77% of third party games are on the Switch.  For about 3 months now, the Switch has consistently had 60-80% of the third party games in the top 30.  This week is no different.  Switch is currently dominating in every way and that includes third party titles.

I'm all for the Switch having 3rd party games, I'm glad it does but if sales aren't high enough for some of them, I expect 3rd parties to pull back sadly.

Plenty of third party titles have sold well on Switch. The fact we're still getting ports in Year 4 shows they must be doing well enough.

What is stopping them from making it both on PS4 and Switch? Even on PC have a lot of user base.

"This week, the week after Obon Festival, consists of titles released before August and 1st place was won by Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons and 2nd-placed Ghost of Tsushima have almost the same number of sales.
Also, the 4th and 6th placed eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 has record number of sales compared to previous releases and it seems that sales in the long span can be expected in the future."

yikes, that has been a drop for AC

Here is an example from this week's chart:

06./08. [NSW] eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 <SPT> (Konami) {2020.07.09} (¥6.980) - 16.444 / 190.925 <80-100%> (+6%)

14./10. [PS4] eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 <SPT> (Konami) {2020.07.09} (¥7.980) - 9.012 / 165.168 <80-100%> (-9%)

The Switch version has better total sales and has much better legs than the PS4 version.  Why wouldn't third parties want to put out a Switch version?  That is where the better sales are.

We have seen a gradual increase of third party sales from games that would of previously skipped Nintendo platforms and we are at the stage now where Switch is consistently getting around 50% market share and it seems like people who would previously buy the games on the PS4 have embraced the Switch and choose to buy there instead now, If anything Switch should keep getting more and more support and quite frankly any Japanese dev who isn't factoring in Switch as a core platform going forward are cutting out such a large chunk of the install base.

Third party sales are fine, and third party releases have only been increasing as time goes on. 3rd parties clearly can't expect huge sales on Switch because they only bring late, downgraded, or smaller games to the Switch. But for what they bring the sales are good. It'd be hard to justify a pullback because they don't focus that much effort in the first place and the games still sell decently. If anything we should expect 3rd parties to continue to gradually put in more effort, which is what we've seen so far during Switch's life.

TOTAL: 9.349.572

  • During the last two weeks, the top 10 games sold an additional 500K units of software
  • Super Mario Party had very good Obon weeks and has climbed to 9th place for the year(Dr. Kawashima dropped out of the top 10).
  • eBaseball & Paper Mario look like the next games that could enter the Top 10 for a bit, not sure which one I expect to have better legs Konami no doubt will continue to market eBaseball for a few more months.
  • Ring Fit continues to be the second best selling game of the year on the Switch despite a lack of stock

TOP 10 Switch Famitsu 2020 Q3:

  1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 546.478
  2. Ring Fit Adventure - 262.140
  3. Paper Mario: The Origami King - 222.575(new)

  10. Super Mario Party - 50.908(re)

TOTAL: 1.707.153

TOTAL HARDWARE: 796.199

  • New Horizon has surpassed 500K for the Quarter, it's physical attach rate has continued to rise it was 36.57% Week 30, now it's at 37.39%
  • Ring Fit is the second big software driver this quarter as it's stock is able to easily propel it ahead of newer releases like Paper Mario
  • There is only one 3rd Party game in the Top 10 for this quarter eBaseball which should clear 200K in one to two weeks, the best selling PS4/PS3 games in the franchise sold less than 300K, which this game will easily surpass by the end of the year
  • Clubhouse Games continues to perform above my expectations, the game could eventually end up at 1M physical+digital
  • The eternal Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold 100K this quarter
  • Super Mario Party re-enters the top 10 narrowly edging out Minecraft

Up until this year Japanese 3rd Party support has been horrible,
I believe that just the Top 2 Nintendo games on the Switch have sold more than the entire combined library of all the Japanese publishers(which is around 9 million).

Things are changing as far as Japanese 3rd Party support as I've outlined in some of my prior posts. Momotaro Dentetsu could very well be the first million-selling Japanese 3rd Party game, and Konami themselves should enter the Top 3 of 3rd Party Publishers on the Switch by the end of the year. Bandai Namco and Square are going to be the only ones ahead of Konami

Bandai Namco & Square have provided "ok-ish" support, but their biggest franchises are either not on the Switch or get to the Switch with 1-2 year delay.

Marvelous could really capitalize if Rune Factory manages to release this fall.

Sega does have one Atlus game coming out this year but their support has been horrible. Koei Tecmo actually has two games announced for the fall granted one is a year late port but Atelier seems to be tracking better in terms of pre-orders on the Switch. Not as bad as Capcom thought, but Capcom could skyrocket to first place if/when they release some type of Monster Hunter on the Switch.

The worst off are by far Level 5, who went from one of the Top 3 3rd Parties on the 3DS to probably fall out of the top 10 by the end of the year if they don't release something. That's mainly because they were a mess when choosing how to invest all the money they made from Yo-Kai by trying to expand into mobile or Playstation markets - both their investments didn't pan out and have made them a total trainwreck
