Forums - Gaming Discussion - Your Favorite Games By Year: 2020 Edition

Unlike the VGC greatest games event, this one is actually doable for me. I'm going to try to participate, and this post signifies that intent, as well as serving as a reminder. And I will NOT use this space to create my list, instead making a new post for extra VGC points.

Yep, just realized this may be messy. For the last decade or so,  I'm usually playing games from previous years. Take 2020 for example. I have played 23 different games, and not one of them is from this year, ranging from 1982 to 2018. Anyways, glad I could clutter up the thread for nothing.

Doing the greatest games event actually makes this a lot easier though.

I've got my 50 greatest games in a spreadsheet so just had to sort by year and then ranking to find my best game from each year.

Any and all lists without The Legend of Dragoon are objectively wrong and thereby void.

*based on when the game released, not necessarily when I played the game. E.G. I played Persona 3 FES for the first time this year but I have it listed in 2008, the year it came out.

Gonna start with 1986 as that's the earliest year with a game I really like. Going by original release dates here, regardless of where that release happened.

1986 - Castlevania
1987 -
1988 - Mega Man 2
1989 -
1990 - F-Zero, I guess?
1991 - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
1992 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2
1993 - Mega Man X
1994 - Super Metroid
1995 - Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
1996 - Pokémon Red/Blue (would be Green in 1996, whatever)
1997 - Star Fox 64
1998 - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
1999 - Pokémon Gold/Silver
2000 - The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
2001 - The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
2002 - Metroid Prime
2003 -
2004 - Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
2005 - Shadow of the Colossus
2006 - Ōkami
2007 - Portal
2008 - Rock Band 2
2009 - The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
2010 - Pokémon Black/White
2011 - The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
2012 - Pokémon Black 2/White 2
2013 - Pokémon X/Y
2014 - Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
2015 - Ori and the Blind Forest
2016 - Persona 5
2017 - Hollow Knight
2018 - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
2019 - Astral Chain
2020 - umm... Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I guess?

Not particularly fond of all those games (not to a GotY degree), but well, I've got a limited scope of games I've played and within it there are a few years with nothing that really stood out.
