Forums - Gaming Discussion - Phil Spencer Says Xbox Series X Games Aren't Being Held Back By Xbox One

Well good news is this problem just solved itself. So many early gen Series X games not including Xbox 1. The 2 year comment does not apply to every game they do. I’m sure that’s a relief for many.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

After watching the MS show, the only games that seemed remotely impressive weren't crossgen (showed as Xbox Series X and PC, no mention of One on the end), so seems like Phill isn't right and for god's sake Goopy may been wrong and the Xbox One didn't hold crossgen down for XSX, but well none looked great.

You might need to clarify. Did you mean goopy was wrong because all the games look bad, not just the crosgen ones?

Because aside from medium if I'm not mistaken was the only xsx only game that was technically demanding. Any other game was just a cg trailer so we know nothing yet.

I dont know, halo was the main topic of discussion on this thread. I think a lot of people owe goopy an apologie after that infinite showcase.

Nope he’s wrong. He clung to this notion that EVERY game in the first 2 years would be held back by XB1. However most games we saw didn’t have a XB1 version. Xbox only doing it for smaller games it seems like Grounded but the big titles are purely PC/Series X. Just a lot of fear mongering when now we see Series X games gonna be just fine.

Halo seems to be the only example that he was talking about. It’s literally the only big game with a Xbox One version. He thought it was rule when really it’s the exception to the rule.

A very interesting video, DF Direct comments on the Xbox presentation. It seems that they are unanimous in saying that the previous generation has a negative impact on Halo infinite ( meaning they don’t agree with Phil Spencer, and that making Halo infinite crossgen considerably lessens the potential of the game’s graphics). Many comments on the presentation, worth watching.

Again, aside from medium, what other demanding game was shown that wasent a cg trailer for you to say that? Also medium was not a MS ip, third party exclusive. That's another point goopy and others(me included) made. Games not being held back are gona be smaller games that not even the xbox one was caped. Gamepass filler.

Avowed, Hellblade 2, Everwild conformed to not have a Xbox One version. Didn’t the majority of the trailers say platforms available at the end, many of the top games didn’t say Xbox One. I don’t think SoD3 and Fable have Xbox One versions either. It’s just Halo and Grounded from what I saw.

Bold: Don’t do what he does and say something so outlandish like that. HB2 and Avowed aren’t small scale games for filler.

Microsoft's messaging is insane.
Here's one from JULY THE TENTH. That's this year. 2 weeks ago. From a gameindustry.biz interview.

"Generational exclusives are “completely counter to what gaming is about.” - Phil Spencer

Amazing. And there's a ton of PHILosophical drivel in the interview accompanying that core idea. Who wants to bet I can find more examples that are so self evidently bad that they require no explanation?

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

You where proven wrong and trying to twist my words wont change anything. What I said was very clear. Crosgen games are gona be smaller titles, gamepass fodder. All the games you mentioned dint have any look at how they will end up being. Not even a release window. Nothing but concept art at this point. Even everwild the devs said that they dont have a clear gameplay idea and are trying things out, meaning its very far away.

Everything here lived and died with the halo presentation. Until we get passed this up to 2 year crosgen period you can count on mediocrity for thouse titles.

And another thing goopy said that you seem to ignore. 4k60 means nothing. A demo runing 1440p30 looked more impresive than halo at 4k60. All that performance could have been redirected somewhere else. And that's what you can expect from "scalability". It wont make games look next gen.

Except Halo isn’t a small game nor GP fodder. It’s a large scale ambitious campaign with a supposedly massive MP. Grounded sure I can see that but I see no indication it’s gonna be a flop critically.

And to be fair Halo is doing 4 player split screen which is very taxing. Halo was NEVER touted as a graphical showcase for Series X. Personally I thought it would look great but not to get hopes up given it’s a 4K launch title. The game looks clean and nails the artistic aspect of what makes Halo, Halo. People shouldn’t pretend we built this game up to something unrealistic.

The fact that the big guns are far away practically guarantees they fall outside the cross gen window.

Again the evidence with halo is clear. Twisting words wont help you here. Trying to claim I said halo is a small game while I wrote it clear twice already is just sad. But you did win on something and thats me stoping with you. I know your gona go in circles into I give up then you have the final word and think you win. Go say your last spin while I watch digital foundry and many others just rip into this showcase and specially halo.
