Feel like this might be the first truly dominant Xbox gen. X not only outpowers the ps5, but S is going to slurp up the lower end. They've been taking some notes from Nintendo too it appears

Before anyone goes nuts about the "dominant" part, I mean launch aligned sales.

Not a new console, just the Scorpio remade with new tech... in other words a new console? Makes no sense for them to keep the Xbox One X name. They’ll have Series X and Series S. Also makes no sense to release a console that third party won’t support.

Thats the whole point. MS can call it whatever they want, but they cant force third party devs to support it. So they cant call it a 9th gen system if 9th gen games skip it. As it stands, if the target is runing next gen games at 1080p, the xbox one x can already do that. The only thing that could be a problem is the ssd. Im not sure if the one x can swap hard drives, but if they could thats all they would need to catch up. Even if they wont be able to put a fast enough drive cuz it does not have acces to pcie 4, it does not need it. By droping to 1080p and removing some extra fetures there would be a lot less data that needs streaming. So who knows, maybe a 1gbs drive could be good enough. And the best part, is that they could already have a step up for installbase as there are already a few million 1x's out in the wild. Wich will make third party devs a lot more willing to suport the device.

How is the Xbox One X with a dated CPU and dated GPU and no SSD going to run next gen games past launch window when devs really start utilizing the hardware? What a bizarre take.

Well I will be avoiding the series x now. Imagine trying to make a game that is only possible on the 12 teraflop powerhouse, then to be told, sorry it needs to run on on your 4 teraflop sibling. People thinking that the solution is to drop from 4k to 1080. But what if some grand epic is made at 1080 pushing the series x to its limit, how would you put that game on the series s?? Now devs will have to design for weaker hardware in mind. Screw this.

Bit of an interesting speculation:

the most telling part was the comparison in interest by showing that even the road to ps5 video has like 10 times the interest as the xbox game reveal.

If that's what next gen is about, just stick to your XBox One X, given that MS wont have exclusive games for the first year or two.

Lockhart is really lame, even if business wise, it's not a terrible idea(though not exactly a great one).

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Did you even read what I wrote?

Market leader having more interest shouldn’t surprise anybody. Wouldn’t count out Xbox just yet. Their Halo Infinite teaser “the signal” is allready 2million plus views and it doesn’t even mention Halo.

There's something strange: 7.5GB instead of 13.5GB available RAM for games means that instead of the full model's 16GB there are 10GB of RAM, an unusual size, I think it could be more likely a 12GB size with 9.5GB available for games. About the rest, if the full specced console uses an APU, while it's clear that the CPU part is just downclocked a little, how do they obtain the downgraded Lockhart GPU? A different APU, or lower quality specimens of the same APU with the GPU downclocked or with defective cores turned off?

I’ve always been pro Lockhart. If it can somewhat imitate Series X at 1080p minimum and go higher depending on the game/scale then I’m all for it. It’s for casuals where as people like us get Series X. Most of the Xbox userbase has the original model so this will be a generational step up regardless.

MS needs that price advantage to stay competitive. With this gen, Sony simply forced their hand.
