Forums - Sales Discussion - The 8th Gen 1st party reception and sales battle

First party battle, huh? Fair enough. Lets see...Nintendo wins. That was easy. What should we talk about next?

You should really use official shipment numbers for games that have that. It's not the exact same as sales ofc, but realistically it's a lot closer to the actual sales than the VGC estimates, especially since they stopped updating those.
Also you should decide whether you're going with all exclusives or just 1st parties. You state here you'll be including games made inhouse or contracted, but I'm pretty sure Persona 5 was neither for example.

Yes I'll go hunt for shipment numbers, but that will take a little more time.

On the Zelda and other similar complains it was crossgen, but on the next thread it won't be an issue.

The thing is, Zelda and MK are gen 8 games, and you are talking about gen 8.  They were cross gen with gen 9, but were developed on gen 8 hardware.  And if you want to call both Switch and WiiU gen 8, but only include games from one of them and disregard games released on both...it only makes things look that much more suspect on your part.

But then you go and list a game like Persona 5, which was cross gen with gen 7 and was only ported to gen 8 (was also 3rd party).  You would have been better off just making it "1st party games in the past 7 years" to avoid confusion and leave things 100% fair in the comparison.  After all, regardless if the game was on Switch, WiiU, or both they are still 1st party Nintendo games released at the same time as the Sony/MS games you mentioned.  Trying to dance around that fact just ruins the legitimacy of the comparison altogether TBH.

Don excludes Breath of the Wild because it's cross-gen, despite believing that Switch is part of Gen 8 just like Wii U.

Yet he includes Persona 5, a game that:
1.) Is also cross-gen (PS3 and PS4,) and
2.) Is not even published by Sony.

Incredible.

Mistakes were made.

Oh god. The format is such a mess. And where is Breath of the wild? Zelda and Mario would be on top in terms of metacritic.

I forgot Persona 5 was released on PS3, I excluded The Last of Us that was a much more relevant title than P5.
