As I see this, in the middle of the photo, beneath the TV is a center channel speaker. Below that is the receiver. To the right of that, is a router.

I see no subwoofers in this image.

Yeah but when playing my left thumb is gonna be on the movement stick pretty much permanently while my right thumb will spend a lot of its time on the face buttons, so the way each thumb is used in games isn't symmetrical.

At the end of the day its really just a matter of preference.

Both systems are ugly, but its clear that AMD chips have problems with heat so both MS and Sony are doing what they can. This has been an issue for AMD for a long time too, to get similar performance, their chips often run hotter than Nvidia designs.

I wanted to compare the top view when laying down. It looks about the same as ps3 phat, but about 20% longer.

I have the grills on in my set up, I just grabbed these photos from the promotional shots, and this was the only front facing image they had.

Now just to lay it down to the left, while flipping the ODD:

Now tell me this doesn't look much better when horizontal. It's still not amazing, and would unfortunately list slightly, but I think it looks considerably better than laying down to the right with the stand and ODD underneath.

Just a tiny amount of list. SNY could just make the bottom portion (standing) ever so slightly wider on both sides of the digital edition, so the same case section can be used on the physical edition so it can lay down perfectly flat this way without a stand, and the digital edition could lay either way.

I like the rounded ODD edge version on the right better, vertical or horizontal.
