Beyond scope and such, Switch 2 will fail if people can get all the games on Switch 1; people need to be made to upgrade for Nintendo to have a future in the hardware business.

I'm not sure that's as true anymore. What if we've all been upgrading 3-5 years earlier than necessary just because devs/console makers chase the self fulfilling hardware sales curve?

As a Switch owner, 6 years is a long enough lifespan for me to feel like I've got my money's worth.

And as Nintendo fan, I really, really don't wanna risk them failing as a hardware manufacturer. Gaming would lose so much of its appeal with only Xbox and Playstation consoles, for me anyway.

Did you miss the bit where I said Sony and MS could have had BoTW ~15years earlier? When they can drop that gap to 10 or even 5 years then Nintendo might need to worry. Isn't MS making a BoTW ripoff for XSX? That's exactly what they should do. Nintendo should give them a sneak peek at their new revolutionary game so they can use their hardware power to try and compete and then Nintendo can blow them out of the water when they match them in hardware (see Sonic v Mario). This is exactly the sort of healthy competition Nintendo needs.

From what I've seen over the last few years, the 'big' boys on the hardcore consoles could run on a smartphone (GTA, Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox, PUBG) meanwhile Splatoon is selling more than Halo now. Nintendo just keeps creating the biggest selling (1st party) arcade games-racer, fighter, shooter, platformer, gimmick- while revoutionising games that would be more at home on PC/hardcore console, BoTW, 3D Mario, probably 3D Metroid too.

It's showbusiness, kid. Nintendo isn't going anywhere.

I wish I had your confidence in them. Anyway, we're kinda going off on a tangent with the crossgen support thing, I've made another thread specifically for that though: https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread/242560/cross-gen-support-whats-your-take/1/

Yeah, no.

BoTW was a WiiU game. Switch deserves at least 2 more Zelda games even if only one more is exclusive. The last one can be cross-gen and 720p/20fps docked on Switch 1 if need be while Switch 2 gets what? 4K version and faster loading?

Idgaf about 3rd parties. I've only ever bought the winning Nintendo consoles at launch so if they want to keep winning they need to appeal to me and ignore the Gamecube/WiiU crowd.

NS would already have two more when BOTW's sequel releases as LA is on the platform, the next game after that would be better off ground up for the next platform especially with the series' new approach as then they'd have a ground up game early for the next platform which they can build on for a follow up game.

We're not talking about only you though in fact your stance is more in line with the WiiU/GC crowd a large part of NS' appeal is having a good library alongside the first party.

I woted for more than 160 million because I simply think that the Switch 2 will not have a "2" in it's name and Nintendo just add its sales to the standard Switch/Switch Light in their Financial Reports. If the base Switch/Switch Light reasonable can do 130 million and the successor (i.e. the "fake" Switch 2) will be as successful, then 160 million is actually lowballing. 260 million would then be more realistic because we talk then about two highly successful generations count as one.

I own 1 Switch, 2 additional docs, two additonal Joy-Cons + 1 8Bitdo Pro Controller, I plan to by a Switch Light and definitely will buy a Switch Pro.
