Nintendo Switch shipped 55.77m by March 31st. Lifetime sales expectations?

I'm not sure that's as true anymore. What if we've all been upgrading 3-5 years earlier than necessary just because devs/console makers chase the self fulfilling hardware sales curve?

As a Switch owner, 6 years is a long enough lifespan for me to feel like I've got my money's worth. 

And as Nintendo fan, I really, really don't wanna risk them failing as a hardware manufacturer. Gaming would lose so much of its appeal with only Xbox and Playstation consoles, for me anyway.
