Forums - Nintendo - Thinking about getting Tokyo Mirage Sessions

Currently got a Switch backlog 12 games deep and I'm going to reduce to half in the upcoming months. Starting with these:

1. Astral Chain

2. Daemon X Machina

3. ???

Runner ups for the 3rd spot are: Links Awakening, The World Ends With You .... and Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Thanks to Persona 1 and mostly Persona 2, I was not an Atlus fan growing up, but thanks to my recent 110 hour playthrough of Shin Megami Tensei 4; I am now and look forward to exploring more Atlus developed games possibly starting with Tokyo Mirage Sessions ... which came and went twice. So, is it good? and for just for my own curiosity(wont affect if I get it or not), just how weebo is this game? I saw Idols and I and cringed a little.

You'd be better off going with Link's Awakening honestly.

If you saw idols and cringed, you are going to be in a state of constant cringe throughout the entire experience as it is practically a non-stop onslaught of the worst of embarrassing anime and j-pop cliches.

There are tons of better games on Switch, Tokyo Mirage Sessions isn't worth it.

On a scale of 1 to 10, it's 'middle-aged man dressing in Sailor Moon cosplay'. Either you need to become more open-minded, or you should really just wait for Shin Megami Tensei V. I mean if you've already got a backlog, there's no use in pressuring yourself to play a game you could hate.

"wont affect if I get it or not"

That was right before the weebo comment too. Don't focus too much part guys ( I just want to prepared); Is it a good game?

Not really, no. Dungeon design is meh, there's quite a bit of unsatisfying filler, and the story is uninspired and dull.

I'm not into the Idol stuff but I really loved this game as a Persona fan. It's very much Persona lite. Remove the calendar. Social links are kinda there but stripped down. It's a great RPG with one of if not the best turn-based battle system with the sessions. I like how they used the Grandia progress bar in battle. Colorful. Nice music. Great dungeons. Dungeons are not randomly generated. They are fixed but each has a unique puzzle element to them. It's a very charming game with some adorable cheese. I liked it more than P5. I think P5 is a great game. I just personally enjoyed TMS more. Switch version is even better with the Joker costume you get very early. The idol stuff it's very lighthearted and they have a character is the weebo and the joke character. 35-year-old American fat guy named Barry. So the game is self-aware. Pokes fun at itself. One of my fave Wii U games and now one of my fave Switch games.

It has an 81 on Meta because it's a very good RPG yes. $36 amazon on sale https://www.amazon.com/Tokyo-Mirage-Session-FE-Encore-Nintendo/dp/B07XG71C43/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1XHJ6BZC4ZYCJ&dchild=1&keywords=tokyo+mirage+sessions+%23fe+encore&qid=1588213118&sprefix=tokyo+mir%2Caps%2C239&sr=8-1

4.5 star rating out 5. So again yes it's good. Just very Japanese.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Is not a good game, there are plenty of RPGs out there with competent combat that have actual substance and charm in everything else.

Very polarized. Curl had me about ready to drop it, but Leynos has me rethinking. I loooove Grandia series.

Worth it for the soundtrack and combat system.

Picked this up at launch (wiiu) and never played. After I got it I found out theres no english voice acting. I presumed localized meant , u know, localized? So bummed.  Itd be one thing if it were bajo Kazooie or zelda jibberish, but its all in japanese with english subtitles. Just a heads up if that bothers u.
