Forums - Gaming Discussion - Crysis Remastered announced for Switch, PC, PS4 and Xbox One EDIT: It will be using new updated engine [UPDATE] Add Digital Foundry Video Analysis

I realize this is hypocritical of me as an outspoken critic of last gen ports, but screw it, if it's a good port I might actually get this; I never properly played it, only ever did some messing around on my brother's PC back in the day for a bit just to admire the graphics/physics.

I would've bought it on 360 if it had gotten a physical release but it was digital only and I stubbornly refuse to make an Xbox Live account.

It's a remaster on a new game engine.  Porting the PS3/X360 game would be harder.

Yeah that does seem logical, why use the Cryengine 3 version when you're up to Cryengine 5.6 after all.

It's just that more than one dev has slapped the "remastered" tag on a Switch game that's basically just the PS3/360 version with a res boost.

And would mean do about twice the work

@cgi-quality how highly do you rate the cryengine?

About as high as it gets. In fact, it battles with 4A's engine and Frostbite quite nicely on PC!

Crytek have done a wonderful job with the engine, they had amazing engineers working on it too... And Zenimax/Bethesda saw that, which is why they pinched a few to work on id Tech!

Should have had them work on Elder Scrolls and Fallout engines instead the way things currently are.

You'd think so; Switch after all is very different to PS3/360 in terms of architecture so porting that version with its now ancient Cryengine 3 code wouldn't be a quick fix. Like I say, the only reason I'm even concerned at all is that it's happened before.

Still, given Saber and Crytek's track record I think it's thankfully more likely we'll see the PS4/Xbone version trimmed back to run on Switch, maybe 720p/30fps with a few of the more demanding effects toned down or disabled; lower res shadows, pulled in LODs, etc.

Being a Crysis game I feel it really should be a system showcase on every platform, as that's a big part of the IP's identity. A poor port would be unbecoming.

I know Nintendo doesn't care much about these stuff but would be good if they involved themselves and supported a good port effort.

I remember reading/hearing somewhere about Nintendo helping devs out with getting stuff running on Switch, though I can't recall the exact titles.

Still though, Crytek are renowned for their technical skill and Saber have experience with bringing demanding software to Switch already, (Witcher 3, plus World War Z currently in the works) so I wouldn't think they'd have trouble.

Yep I also remember seeing Nintendo supporting some devs porting.
