I agree with kimari. btw, what is the anime from your signature gif?

Bubblegum Crisis. The original 1987 OVA series, to be precise. I definitely recommend checking it out. It should be available for streaming on Hulu and RetroCrush, if you have access to either. The series was rebooted in 1998 as a 26-episode TV anime if you're interested.

Many thanks!

But Kimahri is pretty high up there as well.
Mainly because I never used him I guess. But that put me in a tough spot when I was forced to fight Biran and Yenke using only Kimahri, who was at lvl 12 or something.

I know what you mean, it happened to me too but levels in FFX?

Chu-Chu in Xenogears. Superficial to most of the story and weak in battle.

Rapha (Rafa) and Malach (Malak) in FF Tactics. In one of the missions where you have to keep her alive, during the battle with Elmdore and his demon lackeys on the castle roof, I actually had Rafa get killed by the enemy before my first character could even make a move because she actually moved towards these super tough enemies. I had to start another character closer to her to encourage her to move away from the enemies instead of toward them. In battle both of them are useless.

Butch in Fallout 3.

Relm and Setzer (FF6). Setzer had the same issues in battle as Cait Sith with his slots, and he didn't have much role in the story once you got the airship. For Relm, Sketch and Control tended to be useful only in getting blue magic abilities for Strago and were otherwise useless. I also had one of the first printings of FF6 on SNES where Sketch crashed the game (though it would sometimes give you 99 of some powerful items you otherwise couldn't get until much later.)

I actually gave up on my save file for years, because every single time I played that battle Rafa would get killed before I could do anything.  This was extremely frustrating to me due to the sheer length of time it took to retry a battle when every loss forces a complete exit out to the title screen and then having to reboot your save file.  Eventually, I removed all equipment from my party members to speed them up in the move list so that I could actually finish the battle.  So, yeah, I whole-heartedly agree with you.

Anyone in Skyrim. Having an extra party member could help in a fight, provided you're playing the game that way. But considering how unlikely they are to survive for long, they're not worth trying to pick up.

Kimahri from Final Fantasy X. Not only do they lack a defined role, but their Blue Magic ability is garbage. What should be a vast system of magic and abilities is limited to 12 specific abilities to find across the game that can only be used once per Overdrive meter.

Half the guest characters from Final Fantasy II. The first two are fine, everyone after that is an underpowered drag on the party.

And if we're counting Tactical RPG's, Peri from Fire Emblem Fates. Not because of the usual mechanical reasons. She is just THAT antithetical to everything the game's story is trying to accomplish.

Even though he is a useless character, I didn't have a problem in this battle.  I'm a completionist, and I couldn't stand not leveling him up nor gaining his abilities with lancet.  He is pretty much at the same "level" as the other characters.

Baldur's Gate has so many of them, especially evil characters. Quayle, Tiax, Shar-Teel, Alora, Garrick, Faldorn, Skie... and that's just the first game! Thank god that got toned down in BG2, though Cernd and to a lesser degree Jan and Anomen still fit the bill.
