Forums - Politics - Official 2020 US Presidential Election Thread

It's over, dudes, not sure why you keep paying attention to the closing gaps. You should better talk what Trump is going to do to avoid losing the presidency.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Insane woman from Trump administration starts incoherently channeling demons to strike down Biden.

Hopefully she has loony bin insurance where she can get her brain defucked.

This is the weirdest thing I have ever seen. There is also a woman (?) doing pushups near the end.

Well I dont think the world will see the US as much better with an old confused man in charge. Maybe countries will not take advantage of them out of sympathy? I dont think so though. They will probably rejoin the Paris climate deal and pay billions more than any other country. China is pretty much off the hook. The world is back to seeing the US as their piggy bank. Could be worse I guess.

I'm not seeing much of a 'confused old man' perspective here, probably because it largely seems like yet another of Trump's lies. Instead, I'm seen people bash Trump (and his voters) in various ways - something I've never encountered regarding America politics before. To me, it seems like people see Trump as the laughing stock of the US, whereas the rest are seen as just politicians. I think even in this thread there was a post about a study according to which the image of the US has plummeted during Trump's presidency. I have no reason to believe Biden will be seen as a problematic president by very many people. The division of the American people will be though, although even that probably pales in comparison to Trump (which is not to say it isn't a huge problem, because it absolutely seems like a gigantic problem to me).

On the The Times UK, a predominantly right-wing website that is owned by Rupert Murdoch, polls amongst readers about who they'd prefer to see as President, Biden was easily getting into the 80% range. Of course, Trump has his supporters abroad as well, but when you pursue a policy of 'America first' through unilateralism and self-interest, the foreign countries you deal aren't too likely to see it through a positive light.

Fellow americans what do you think about the idea of changing your voting system to something more digital? It's not only harder to cheat, but also much faster

Here in germany we have paper ballots that are counted by hand. There are also mail-in ballots. Not a single ballot is counted before polling places close. Still the result is there in a few hours. This is not about counting mail-ballots earlier, or digital votes or whatever. It is all about organization and the proper manpower.

Why is it undemocratic? I'd love official results, but I don't see how taking a few days renders the process "undemocratic" assuming all votes are counted properly. Dunno enough about Brazil's elections to know if they do it better, but I don't see anything inherently wrong with this, aside from impatience.

The second part of my post was unrelated to the first one. It's undemocratic because of the electoral college, not because of how long it takes to count.

But well, I have a few problems with voting on paper, as the votes are destructible. With electronic voting machines, every vote is stored even if the machine is destroyed. That's likely not going to change the outcome of an election or anything, but it seems more democratic to ensure that everyone has their votes counted.

Paper votes are destructible. However, any changes made to them are immediately obvious.

Electronic votes are also destructible. You just need to hack into the voting machines and you can make any changes you want. If you know how everything works you can change the outcome of the election on the fly and nobody would even know anything about it.

This is the reason why European countries still use paper ballots - they're more fragile, but it's much more difficult to tamper with them.

I'm gonna tell you what he's going to do. The 5 stages of grief:

  • denial.
  • anger.
  • bargaining.
  • depression.
  • barricade himself in the whitehouse.
