Forums - Nintendo - Staring into the abyss of a world where Nintendo has no games scheduled for release. Edit: The Time of Darkness Has Arrived

I'm done, its literally late August and we still don't know shit about the holiday season. Nintendo has been so unprofessional this whole year and I'm done with it. They're a bunch of sociopaths who literally don't give a fuck about what fans think.

Sony and Microsoft are releasing new consoles this fall and have not even announced the price point yet.  That kind of basic information is usually out May/June before release.  This isn't a typical year.

I never thought about it this way, but now that you said it, there should be a new rule in the genebra convention that classifies as war crime a company not releasing software. The absolute cowards.

This is the problem. For all the whining in this thread, I bet none of them have even begin to scratch the surface in regards to all the gems sprawled throughout the Switch libabry. Once again, its this behavior of if its not Nintendo or a specific 3rd party games(not just general 3rd party contrary to what 2 gens this crap preached) then theres a drought. A "dark abyss".

Has anybody here considered that Nintendo is not in the hurry to announce any new titles because they are confident that Switch's large library will carry them to the holidays with ease and they do no expect Switch owners to flat out reject most library?

We all love our Indies games. I own as many Indies on my Switch as I do full blown AAA games. So do a lot of other users in this thread. The problem is we want our Indie games, and our First Party Nintendo games. If all we cared about was 3rd party Indies, and  3rd party multiplat AAA games, then we wouldn't have bought a Switch. And remember that all that the users in this thread are asking for is one, big holiday Nintendo game that is not a port. I don't think that's unreasonable at all.

Instead, we're likely to just get Pikmin 3 and 3D World Deluxe for the holiday season.

Oh well. Maybe 2021 will be a massive year to make up for it. Maybe we'll see Bayo 3, BotW2, Odyssey 2, Yokai Watch 4, Bravely Default 2, NMH3, SMTV, and Xenoblade 3?

My guy; you did it again.

Nothing but walls that allow you to discount most of the Switch's library. There are so many games on Switch that do not fit that criteria but would provide compelling and satisfying experience anyway. Maybe ya'll should branch out, explore, take a risk. The situation is kinda bizarre; two gens of complaining about the lack of 3rd party games, and then flash forward and Nintendo now has the most support on a home console since SNES and they're taking advantage of that by spreading out their games; playing their cards close now that they have the opportunity and now ya'll whining about a lack of Nintendo software! I get it, you buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games but all those years of complaining about and finally getting great 3rd party support, you'd think ya'll be more ready to dig through 3rd party software while you wait.... no. Its dark abyss now. A dark abyss on a console as hot as the switch... wow.

I will be buying a PS5 when it comes it out buuuuut, unless Dark Souls is a launch title, I have no interest in its current library. That is ok though, because I know that there are many games that I do want announced for later dates, and while I wait for those games, I can play the large library of pre existing games that will readily be available for it. Try giving this mindset a shot guys.

haha i like it. Javi went a little...wow! Calling a company unprofessional and a bunch of sociopaths(!!) simply because they aren't announcing games well in advance haha. that's uhhh...something.

Anyways, we don't yet know what the holiday will look like. Maybe it'll be packed with Pikmin port, BotW2, Mario Collection, another port, and a AA game or something. Or maybe it'll just be Pikmin port, Mario Collection, and another port. Sure it'll be disappointing if they end up not having a major NEW AAA first party game for the holidays, but if they don't I bet we're gonna have a hell of a 2021.

Since Nintendo can't even make the Switch fast enough based off just AC hype and the reality of the pandemic then it kinda makes sense for them to wait until next year to bring out more big games to push sales when sales actually need a push, and maybe just do a couple ports and a huge Mario Collection this holiday. I mean I'm not trying to let them off the hook, if they end up not having a major new game for the holidays that might be okay from a business sense since they are still selling out globally, but from a customer viewpoint it's a shitty thing to do.

But I try to take a positive view on things, and it isn't hard since I still have a huge backlog of games I own plus plenty of games I'd be happy to buy if I felt like playing something I don't even own yet. If no new games this holiday that means between ports and some slow periods during these first four years, that there are still a ton of new first party series that have yet to see the light of day by the time we're almost 4 years in. Just makes me think Nintendo is serious about keeping Switch well supported in years 5, 6, 7. Years 5,6,7 could see second zelda, second 3D mario, second mario party, first brand new 2D Mario, first new pikmin?, fzero?, star fox?, Xenoblade 3???, bayonetta 3, mario golf?, mario strikers?, excite(bike/truck)?, one or two more pokemon, some more handheld series, first brand new DKC?, MP4, new 2D Metroid??, maybe a new mario kart or ideally a different racing game a la DKR, maybe another remake or two, some more ports, and maybe a collection or two (MP Trilogy cough cough).

I don't even have any interest in Animal Crossing or Paper Mario, but I've already played Switch more this year than I did in any of the previous years, so even if the only really cool shiny thing (that isn't even new) that comes out this holiday is a Mario Collection there's still a ton of games to get including plenty of new third party and indie games from this year including whatever is coming out this Fall. It's not like Switch owners have to desperately wait for the next AAA first party game in order to find something new and good to buy.

But hopefully BotW2 or some total surprise AAA game comes out this holiday just so we don't have to see people continue to complain!

This thread should be renamed The Official Nintendo Meltdowns Thread

Do you even know what that word means?

Given the circumstances of the pandemic - and the fact that I still have plenty of Switch games to catch up on - I'm completely fine with the lack of games for 2020. As long as things pick up again next year. It's a great opportunity to catch up on my extensive backlog.

I've been putting tons of hours into Animal Crossing and Clubhouse games. Luckily both of these titles have a ton of longevity for me. And beyond that there are a number of indies, ports, and older games for Switch I'm burning through, and games like Astral Chain I still haven't played. And I still need to try Paper Mario (though I'd like to wait for a $10-$20 discount first).

I own 106 games on Switch. 87 of them are 3rd party games. I've played and completed 29 games on Switch. 15 of those are 3rd party games. I've done what your bolded comments suggest, since the Switch's launch day. Lots of regulars in this thread support and play 3rd party games too. We've earned our right to complain that there's not going to be any big new Nintendo made holiday release this year.

The word on the street is that something is happening on the 28th.

I think it's a safe bet that something will happen somewhere on that day, yes.

Of course, the rumor's originator has scaled back a bit, and been explicit about having no idea whether it will be a full-blown Direct, or a 5-minute plug on Pikmin 3, or just 30 seconds of Miyamoto orchestrating Wii Music. Still, cause for optimism!

It can be a mini, 20 pr 30 minutes maybe?
