Anyway, I guess time will tell. I'm gonna have to bow out of this one now, I'm too tired and stressed atm to engage in a vigorous discussion.

It being a direct sequel is what I think will shave it down from 5 years to 4. If they had confidence it would hit this year, the E3 trailer would've ended with a "2020". |
5 years isn't normal.

I really hope so, I am sooo tired of not knowing what I can look forward to this year, especially given my personal circumstances. I fucking hate this new trend in recent years of Nintendo keeping us in the dark and frequently leaving us with little or nothing concrete to look forward to. It's so depressing.

As of right now there are no upcoming Switch games I'm looking forward to. Only the Pokemon DLC. |
I'd be in the same boat if not for Outer Worlds and Doom Eternal, but only one of those even has a release date, and just two games is not enough.
Frankly I think it's a disgusting way for a company to treat its fans.

I wish they had a consistent quarterly Direct schedule like March, June, Sept, Dec.

I think it's disgusting of you to take a dump on Xenoblade Chronicles and Breath of the Wild 2. You should be ashamed of yourself. |
I already own Xenoblade Chronicles, I have since 2011, so a rehash has no value to me. And how can I be excited for BOTW2 when we have seen no gameplay at all and don't even have a release year?

Agreed, if we knew when we could expect an update that'd make it so much more bearable. Right now we're at the longest we've ever been without a Direct since they started them back in 2011/2012 (can't remember which) and no idea when we'll get one. :(

I'll guess two things: A kart game of some kind because of the rumors and a new AAA 2D Mario game from the 3D Super Mario team.

Because Breath of the Wild was kind of a good game? |
It was an amazing game, but I can't get excited for a game based on its predecessor alone; that's enough to gain my interest, but I need to see what the new game itself will play like. With Doom Eternal and Outer Worlds I can at least see that.

It saddens me that I'll only have about one more week of curl badgering ahead of me. Then again, even a good Direct isn't going to change anything when the games aren't to curl's liking, so I might get time until E3. |
I'm not hard to please, if I get any of the following I'll be happy:
- Bayonetta 3 footage
- BOTW2 footage
- Metroid Prime 4 footage
- Announcement of a cool new game
- An interesting PS4/Xbone port, like Hellblade and Witcher 3 last year
