Opinions on a straight pride parade?

Just like straight people often join LGBT Pride events to show support, I think the LGBT community should join the next straight pride parade en masse.

You know, to show reciprocity and support.

I don't think the straight people who show support during LGBT pride events are the same people who would organize or attend a straight parade.

yyeeeeah....about that. We don't live in a world where 'straight pride' needs to be displayed. 'straight' has been the default at the cost of all other sexualities for so long that 'gay pride' is less about 'hey, we're here' and more about 'hey, we won't be oppressed anymore'. Straight people have never been oppressed.

white people have never been repressed.

Men have never been repressed.

At least on a historical, worldwide scale. I'm sure there are pockets of examples where this was the case, but they were such miniscule minorities that they're not worth discussing. Straight Pride Parades are not to say 'hey, I love being straight', the underlying message has always been and will always be 'I won't let you fags get more love than me'. It was never about equality, it was always about maintaining some prejudiced status quo.

Like heterosexuality is being invisibilized in your mind or something? Seriously?

If you seriously think that that's the case, just turn on your TV and watch it for 30 minutes. Play a popular video game. Go to the grocery store and listen to the radio playing in the background. Ask yourself how many gay candidates for president there are (and also, how many of those are women). Or go to church, where they'll probably tell you heterosexuality is the only morally acceptable "lifestyle". Or stand in line for a ride at the local amusement park. You know, just be alive in 2020 because there is no rational way that you can possibly feel invisibilized because of your other-sex attraction. If somehow you're managing, try imagining how I feel. Ever thought of that before?

It would annoy me.

I mean ,straight pride is already all around us as the default sexual preference and people already speak about it openly so the need for it to have a parade is kinda unnecessary.

So I need to be "ridiculed, condemned, tortured, murdered, discriminated against for being straight" before I can just have a parade? What if I just want to have a parade because parades can be fun and not because I'm "upset and cracking a tantrum simply because [I'm not] receiving any attention"?

You can have a parade for anything you want. No one is stopping you.
Just giving you the reasons why "straight pride" exists.

But I think you already knew that and were just looking to stir the pot and get a reaction... And this probably isn't the thread for that.

"No one is stopping you"

>Perhaps you're unfamiliar with the protesters that show up to straight pride parades.

"Just giving you the reasons why "straight pride" exists"

>So you are going to tell me why my "straight pride" exists? Seems a little presumptive to say the least. What if I were to presume why gay pride exists? Would that be fair? What if I were to go full-conspiracy mode and think gay pride was a secret plot to undermine the family unit? Would that be fair?

I certainly don't think that would be fair.

"But I think you already knew that and were just looking to stir the pot and get a reaction..."

>Well if you must know, I'm not looking to stir any pot. I just felt it was an interesting topic to discuss.

I don't think that's the case, I'm just looking to have a parade for fun's sake.

Let's ignore this straight pride nonsense, user has been banned from the thread, anyone else derailing the thread with nonsense or looking to cause trouble will also be swiftly dealt with, we want this thread to be a nice place for the LGBT community to socialise in.

Why did you banned him? i wanted to ask him how many gay parades he has attended. You know, because he likes parades so much.

Awww, I bet he's off in his corner whining about how his first amendment rights are being trampled on, horrendously missing the point and failing to understand what Free Speech actually is!

Are we allowed to talk about particularly explicit material in this thread? or just to talk about general LGBT stuff. Like, I'm asexual (as in I don't enjoy sex) but I love sexual gratification. It's complicated, but it implies some really weird kinks and behaviours that many might find strange, especially for someone considered to be asexual.

It would be nice that this thread was supportive, positive and just people talking about their experiences instead of people going at eachother like in the more political threads.I mean, let there be one place for people to just focus on constructive things, enough flaming and baiting already in other places on this site for self-gratification.

Other threads can be made for the more conflicting manners imo.

Count me amongst the allies! Nice to see this thread come back. I remember when the LGBT scene was pretty lively on the site. I think a thread like this will really add to the sense of community in the forums.

Don't reveal anything you're not comfortable with discussing in detail (especially if it isn't something that isn't necessarily common.) Try to keep it within the realm of SFW because I want this thread to be available for everyone that would like to be in here. No images or videos that go against the general rules of the site. But if your writing is overtly sexual or otherwise breaks any other rule, please hide them behind a spoiler tag.

That being said, everyone needs to try to remain respectful as best as possible. No kink shaming or baiting with responses. Also, if things get heated in here, just report it to a mod, try not to engage.  (This last sentence moreso has to do with the events that happened earlier in this thread, not aimed at you Runa.)

It's alright, I have a reputation for writing about particularly taboo things. I get it.
