But then it would directly compete with the original SKU instead of indirectly competing/complementing it.

So the Switch that doesn't dock is indirect competition for the dockable Switch but Switch is direct competition to PS5/XSX? Great.

I never took any economy classes so I don't know the difference between overlap, indirect competition, direct competition, competition or market shifts and I can't think of any simple car analogies that will make sense of everything. It's made more difficult by people believing consoles aren't consoles while dedicated gaming PCs are.

Switch will win 2020 sales. It may even win 2021 sales. 2022 it will get crushed by ps5 and series X, so that's when they should release something else and by that point it will be time for a totally new system farore capable than Switch. This is what Nintendo should do. Don't release some tiny upgrade this or next year.

So Switch 1st party games that are a full fat 1080P, 60fps is the exception not the rule.

I could probably keep going on...

I never claimed Switch 1st party games were. I said 'most' of Nintendo's 'big' (sellers not scale) games and they are.

Doesn't matter anyway, real Nintendo gamers would rather have a $149 dedicated home console at 720p/60 for our Wii Sports friend's (30 for Zelda and Pokemon) instead of an overpriced GC/WiiU 2/Pro home console that runs the odd PS5 port.

In general, the only Nintendo exclusives that will hit 1080P, 60fps reliably are those that are ported over from the Wii U and had stuff all improvements outside of that.

You are probably right that Nintendo gamers are probably happy with 720P/60fps, that audience doesn't seem to care significantly about having the best visuals, but rather are content with just "good enough".

A TV model is *possible*, especially after the Lite, but it also makes less business sense then a Lite. The Lite serves to fill the void left by the 3DS with a smaller, cheaper, more portable experience, and most Switch users who don’t use Switch in both docked and portable modes use it exclusively as a portable. That said, definitely a market for it, and I don’t think a $150 price tag is an impossibility.

The Switch Lite fills the void for the 3DS just the same as a Switch TV hypothetically fills the void of the Wii U.

The OG Switch is marketed towards both segments.

If a Switch TV comes out, I would sell my current Switch and buy one.

That doesn't make any sense. A console cannot compete with itself. It would be like the ds lite and xl, or regular 3ds and xl. $199 real switch lite and $249 regular switch would be selling a lot more than fake lite at $199 and switch at $299.

Maybe it would be XL v Lite but it could just as easily be DS Phat v DS Lite. Who says the XL and Lite didn't compete against each other?

Does this theoretical 'real Switch Lite' dock with improved res/fps? Is that even possible?

fps? 99% Switch of switch games only change resolution. And how exactly is it not possible?

I wouldn't be surprised if this were true. Nintendo needs to do something to try and steal some of the thunder away from the Xbox Series X and PS5 this year.

And if true, my guess is just a more powerful hardware when docked and hardly any difference on portable side of things.

Nintendo needs to do absolutely nothing regarding those consoles until 2022.

They don't need to but they absolutely should try and piss on their parade. Even if it's just making sure BoTW2 releases close to they release.

Wii did a much better job than WiiU at Nintendo's traditional role of snapping up the kids/young families. The spoilt brats guilt tripping their parents into buying them a $400-500 graphics upgrade next Christmas need to come up with some good reasons as to why a $199 console with Switch Sports isn't a better option to go alongside their PS4/XB1.

Heat in a small form factor.

Sounds extremely easy when they already have portable mode and I doubt this has anything to do with the current lite not docking.

There's no reason why the Lite couldn't output to TV at portable resolutions but the extra power needed for docking at higher resolution would create more heat.

If it is true, Id go in 3DS like route:

New Switch.
Slightly power upgrade for faster loadings and more stable fps/resolution, same size, but slightly bigger screen(half bezels size), slightly different design, so the screen do not touch the dock(older and new) ; 128Gb storage. Dock case with different design, but still work in any switch version. No exclusives this time.
350$.

However, id bet this for after switch sales decline, and for 300$, along with a 50$ price cut in all other models.
