Banjo would be perfect to generate hype and push Game Pass. Otherwise I want more Killer Instinct.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

China has 400 million F2P users of Minecraft. That’s about as good as it gets lol.

He means a console market foothold I'm sure. We recently got official Chinese hardware numbers, and PS4 and Switch both sold like 3x as many units as Xbox One in China. MS definitely would be smart to take advantage of PS5's stock issues to get an early foothold in the Asian markets where they usually struggle to sell, but sadly it doesn't seem like they have enough stock to do that.

What are the numbers?

So, two questions, what IP do you think will be revived next and what IP do you personally want to be revived next?

Ask me again when some of these IP MS has recently announced to be coming back are actually released. Nothing is actually revived until it lands....successfully.

Well Flight Simulator is out.. successfully.

Banjo/Viva piñata to fill that family friendly base. Killer Instinct needs to come back. Conker would be cool but seems unlikely. Might be in the minority but I hope Crackdown gets another chance... as far as Lost Odyssey and blue dragon go, I’d like MS to try and make some new JP IPs.

Well, we already got Flight Sim, Crackdown, and Battletoads revivals this gen. I doubt MS will cancel the Fable, Age of Empires, or Perfect Dark reboots.

I say they have to be successful, and you bring up Crackdown....? Where in that equation did they succeed exactly? Flight Sim is nice, but it's also super niche. The average gamer will either never play it, or play it only briefly. Fly over a few major landmarks, see how pretty it is, take a few screenshots, and maybe go find their house or something. Then they'll be done with it more or less forever. It also can't be championed as a MS internal team flexing their muscle, where it gives people confidence in their studios moving forward, because....well...it's just a third party partner. Similarly, Battletoads looks like an amusing enough little game, but it's not what anyone's really looking for from MS either, and it was more or less shoved unceremoniously out the door, with barely any marketing, or attention paid to it.

Not saying I'm not personally optimistic about a lot of what MS has in the pipeline atm, but that's all it is. Optimism. Based on Microsoft's renewed investments in Xbox, and their vision for GamePass. Not on any actual currently established standard of excellence for knowing wtf they're doing when developing their games. It's been very much hit and miss all gen.

I'm actually kind of surprised by how few views the Perfect Dark trailer is getting. Adding up the Xbox Youtube posting of the trailer, and the most viewed repostings on Youtube, I'm getting about 860k views after nearly 48 hours. I would have expected alot more views than that. Afterall, the original Perfect Dark sold 2.5m copies on N64, and it has probably been played by at least 500k more than that since then between the 360 remaster and Rare Replay. By comparison, the Hellblade 2 trailer last year got over 3m views across the 2 official postings and the top repostings in a similar timeframe (48 hours). Sure the Hellblade 2 trailer was just all around much better reveal trailer (in-engine with killer graphics, good music), but still, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice only sold 1m at last official count (probably closer to 2m by now), Perfect Dark sold more copies.

I've been trying to tell you guys in here for years that Perfect Dark wouldn't arrive to the kind of fanfare that you envisioned. It's not now, nor has it ever been some storied franchise, that defined people's childhoods over years and years with consistently amazing experiences. It was just one game. An excellent game, sure, but it hasn't had any meaningful, positive exposure in people's minds for 2 decades since then. All it is now, is a name. One that likely doesn't mean a whole lot to a great many people. For all intents and purposes, this is a new IP. Just one that will make a select few people either really happy, or really angry, depending on how faithful it is to it's namesake.

Perfect Dark just isn't a very exciting IP to begin with. And then you see people arguing what kind of hairstyle should the main character have geeeeeez.. Not at all surprised if there isn't much hype around this reveal. Initiative should've done something else. But I do hope it'll be a good game.

Yeah, maybe the next PD will be great and sell 10m+ because of that (let's forget it will be on GP) but some people on gaming forums love to overestimate how much the average Joe will care about it just because of some success like 20 years or even more ago.

And these people often push devs to develop such a game instead of creating a new IP where the dev has much more freedom in creating something truly exciting.

And if you want to see how some IPs are simply not as big just because some fans let it look huge just check Shenmue on PS4/PC. Nice that some ultra fans threw money on it but yeah...

PD is a niche game targeted to core gamers. I don’t think it was expected to do insane numbers but look at ResetEra and it’s pretty obvious it served its job. Idk how anyone could wish they were doing a different game when we haven’t seen any gameplay. Look at the talent pool, they have the potential to turn PD into a crazy success.
