In fairness they said no *new* next gen news so if anything is announced before TGS, like a Japanese exclusive, it wouldn't be new for TGS (but I don't expect that to be the case Tbh) (new next gen news could refer to consoles only as well but who knows with this marketing...)

Still don't think Microsoft will bother much with Japan in terms of selling consoles, they know it's a loss cause and would rather focus on selling Game Pass/xCloud BUT no iOS will really hurt them there, so I think their focus will be on South Korea as they're having huge success with xCloud there, honestly at this point I wouldn't be surprised if we get a South Korean studio before a Japanese one.

I think for Japan the focus will mostly be on getting parity with Sony for 3rd parties rather than making actual exclusives, which they have made great progress in recent history but there's still a lot of work to do.

The main issue here is essentially going in with no news or even advertising new partnerships (as in actual ones) instead of just skipping it. Also, blergh at the idea of a South Korean studio.

Probably will throw it immediately into the blacklist.

Obviously it's not a great look to us as gamers for MS to rock up to an event without anything new to showcase (I certainly find it off-putting), but if you're really one of those people who desperately want more Japanese support for Xbox, than you're being rather a bit hyperbolic in poopooing MS showing up nevertheless. It's important for them to be in the room and mingle with these devs, show the people there that MS does consider it important to be present, and interact with everyone (devs and fans alike) even if it's a scenario where they can't necessarily show up and wow everyone with some grand announcements or the like. If Phil is really serious about wanting to strengthen Xbox in Japan, then they need to be at TGS every year, regardless what kind of Japanese content they have right that second. Being a consistent presence there is a path to getting more support from this market.

Also, the event is being hosted by Xbox Japan.
People are sh*tting on Xbox deservingly for not showing much gameplay of next gen games. However, same drama is not happening at Sony camp for not showing a console running at events and not doing a tear down. I mean, the info on that big machine is so sparse, people are speculating that its GPU is RDNA3 😒

Thing is they already had their E3 substitute event for the year, and there wasn’t a single JP exclusive on it. TGS is their last chance to announce a JP exclusive before launch, and now it seems that isn’t happening. Xbox Series is going to be the first Xbox console to release without any JP exclusives now. And not only will it not have any at launch, it might not have any in the first year, since anything JP exclusive releasing in 2021 would probably have been announced by now. OG Xbox, 360, and XB1 all got at least 2 JP exclusives in the first year.

Perhaps they have one but it got delayed so they are waiting. Of course I can see why you would be disappointed taking into account past presedence.

That said announcing a big JPN exclusive at TGS makes little sense. Sony doesn't even do this (or rarely does).

The best way to go through with this is to announce a JP exclusive or two before or announce marketing rights to Tales of Arise (which isn't new) and another JP game.

Imagine if Square Enix reveals FFXVI a day before and then MS announces marketing rights/exclusive content for it. It wouldn't be a new announcement, but it'd hit like one.

The Witcher 3 is getting a free Series X upgrade!

Including Ray Tracing and all DLCs will be free as well even if you only own the standard edition. Both digital and physical.

Guess I have to wait even longer now to continue it.

Saw that this morning. Love it.

Any excuse to replay this game is a good one.

I'm 11 hours into the game which isn't too much but I hope that savegames are compatible. Pretty please CD Projekt Red?

I'd imagine they will be.

AFAIR the standard version was incompatible with the GOTY edition so I'm a bit worried.

But I made all my progress in the GOTY version so there might be a chance.

That's right, I totally forgot that Witcher 3 GOTY edition had separate achievements from the standard version. Now I get to replay the game and still earn achievements for doing so when the XSX update hits.

Oh damn.. well that is pretty enticing.
