No one gussed it yet, and no, it isn't Assassin's Creed either.

Bonus tip: there isn't that much heights and climbing, it's just a lot more than the previous games in the franchise (at least, that's what Google told me, since it's the only game of the franchise that I played).

A shot in the dark: Darksiders III maybe?

Nope. It shouldn't be too hard to guess for you though.

Time to break into the top 30, with a few hints.

31. The latest entry into this series isn't simple and clean, doesn't provide a sanctuary, but instead let me face my fears.

30. The world no longer has any need for a summoner, so what is the last great summoner to do? It's showtime!

29. The main character is a thief, so naturally you begin by stealing...a princess?

28. A game in a long running franchise, that returns to the style of earlier entries and feels like it should carry the slogan,

W E L C O

M E T O T

H E N E X

T L E V E L

31: Kingdom Hearts III

30: Final Fantasy X-2

29: Final Fantasy IX

All correct

#28: Sonic Mania?

Correct

#36: Risk Of Rain

This game has been hovering near my Top 50 for a few years but it made a breakthrough this year thanks to me re-purchasing it on Switch (previously had it on Steam). This is a simple but very well made roguelike where you battle your way through randomized levels against foes who get stronger as time goes by. Achievements, unlocks and artifacts are permanent so as you play you unlock more characters and items that help you reach the end and escape from the planet you've crash landed on. Each character has a different set of abilities which means there's a lot of variety to be found and the random items you find in chests make every run unique.

One other aspect of this game that I love is the soundtrack! It is amazing and I listen to it regularly on Spotify!

35: Tekken Tag Tournament

I have loved the Tekken series since I've played a demo of Tekken 2 on a PS1 demo disk. Tekken Tag Tournament released with the PS2 and it quickly became one of the most played games at my house. The fact that they included pretty much everyone from the previous games (even characters supposed to be dead) and the two characters tag team mechanic made it insanely fun. My most played match: Jun/Xiaoyu (me) vs Paul/Lei (my brother), we could do a hundred matches of that in a row and keep a pretty close score.

Oh and let's not forget the side mode Tekken Bowling!

#34: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Everyone is here! What more could you ask for? A faster pace than Smash 4? You got it! Peach being top tier? Yup, that too. I love playing and watching tournaments for this Smash title. Sakurai really put his heart and soul in this game and it lives up to the "Ultimate" name. My only regret is that the VGC community isn't as strong as it was around Brawl's release which means I mostly play online against randoms. Sure it's still good old Smashing fun but I do miss being able to chat with my opponents after a few fights.

#33: Resident Evil 2 (2019)

Now that's what I call a remake! Capcom hit it out of the park with the Resident Evil 2 remake, they managed to wonderfully update the look of the PS1 game while keeping the atmosphere. Unlike later RE titles you're not swimming in bullets and have to be careful with how you use them, you get tense walking an unknown corridor not knowing what's going to jump at you, the Tyrant keeps you on your toes. The police station feels familiar but most puzzles are different and once you leave it it's mostly all brand new. The character models are gorgeous (Leon is such a cutie!) and I really liked how they've fleshed out Annette Birkin in this version.

More clues:

28.  a)  Mode 7 graphics are one thing that originally made this game impress, but the playstyle for this franchise is nothing like this game any more.
b)  The main villain in this game is arguably the greatest villain ever.  Not just in video games, but books, movies, etc...everything.

This sounds like Final Fantasy VI.

My next three:

32 and 31 are both crossover titles, the latest in both series due to the huge amount of content in each.

I suppose one of those is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I would have to look stuff up to come up with the other though.

Smash is right. The other is also a Nintendo franchise.

I also though maybe Monster Hunter World is a possibiliity.

More clues:

30.  a)  This popular series had let you choose your character before, but this is the first time where 4 different people could also play at the same time.
b)  The main character of this game is known for defeating King Kong and Godzilla (or at least creatures that resemble them).

28.  a)  Mode 7 graphics are one thing that originally made this game impress, but the playstyle for this franchise is nothing like this game any more.
b)  The main villain in this game is arguably the greatest villain ever.  Not just in video games, but books, movies, etc...everything.

27.  a)  A similar style PS4 game came out last year, but I still prefer this PS2 game that was based more on a movie.
b)  The actor in the movie also did some voice over work for this PS2 game.

25.  This Switch game is a combination of two different franchises.  It also appeared on other platforms before coming to Switch.

#27: This might be Spiderman. The one for PS2 obviously. I think they had voice actors from the movie.

#25: This probably totally is Hyrule Warriors.
