It's impossible for me to properly assess what my end take will be at this early stage, but so far, about six hours in, I really like Death Stranding! I've been hearing that the story really picks up about ten hours in, but it's already gotten pretty interesting to me!

If slow-paced game play really bothers you then this game may not be for you, at least based on what I've played of it so far. The tedium of it seems to be part of the point though, not something accidental, and that's what has enabled me to power through points of frustration easily so far. It's super easy to see that this game is from the heart. I'll probably have more to say about it when I'm further along.

I'll wait for the PC version. I heard it's more of a cinematic experience than a regular game, and I'm not against that. In fact, the graphics and the setting are looking really good.

But in games like that, I must really enjoy the plot and the characters in order to keep playing.

Yikes, not sure if I wanted to have read that. Not sure what Chapter I'm in though. I thought I was in Chapter 2 already, but probably not. I think I've completed 11 or 12 main missions now.

I just turned off the game for the night, so I don't know about the animation skipping. I haven't used the feature much myself but maybe at some point I will get tired of watching the same thing. Maybe check the options. I went through the list of options before starting my playthrough but I don't remember if there was anything about animation skipping.

I stayed up way too late and got way too little sleep the past couple nights. Before exiting the game I decided to finish up everything I had to do in my private quarters so that when I play tomorrow night I will be ready for another mission. But after doing so, one of the BB cutscenes played and I nodded off for a few seconds while it was playing.

I've been very adamant on paying very good attention to cutscenes and dialogue, so I quickly reset the game and loaded my file. It put me right outside the private quarters, so I had to go back in and re-do everything again to trigger the BB scene (this is the one and only time I've used animation skip).

While doing this I forced myself to stand up so that I wouldn't microsleep, and it helped, but twice during this time I started to nod off while standing up and woke up in the process of tipping over and getting my balance back (DS IRL).

I did manage to finish what I was doing and watch the cutscene fully this time though, and then I turned everything off. Going downstairs to get some ice and water woke me up enough to spend a bit of time on VGC.

DS is really good so far.

11h in! Still loving the game!

You mentioned aliasing. Get the Pro! :P

Best looking game ever? Well, to me, Metro: Exodus would disagree, but it's a contender to be sure and the PC version isn't even out yet. Playing this in 1440p/144Hz with G-SYNC will be an experience like very few!

And yes, the game is incredible. One of the best I've played all year!

OK,that's it !
I'm putting Monster Hunter World down for a while and gonna buy this!

I spent all night playing more Death Stranding, so I'm now some 13 hours in (and very, very tired, lol). Wow. I don't want to let the cat out of the bag (yes), but let me just say that there have been some BIG developments in the game's story since I posted six hours in yesterday! I mentioned that I was really liking the game yesterday, but I'm qualitatively more into DS now than I was then. Just saying.

I just want to say something I didn't see anyone commenting so far.
The people that played the game before us, reviewers and random people didn't get to ENJOY one of the biggest parts of the game that is the CONNECTIONS. "Death Stranding" is such an amazing OFFLINE/ONLINE game. I love creating and building paths to help people as I love being helped. This created an amazing warm feeling in such SP game. Also, I find the game weirdly addicting. It is getting better and better each hour I play.

Im enjoying it some, but it is starting to get a bit tedious tbh. Im about 20-25 hours in I think. Not really a big fan of how it tries to change up how you deliver stuff. It just becomes more cumbersome than just walking to a place and delivering.

I'm on Pro on a 4k TV and there is aliasing, it's not bad and only in certain areas but it was anough to tarnish the girst few hours. I said it will be the best looking game when it gets on PC along with Detroit.

And I've played Metro Exodus on a 4k monitor with ray trancing. It looks fnatastic but you still can't get away fron the jankyness of the art underneath it.

Have you played Shadow of the Collosus on PRO at 4k with HDR? I think that's something thaf out right beats Exodus environments wise, even the desert area with RTX on.

Death Stranding is lacking sonething to make it truly great though, I can't put my finger on it but when it shines it really does shine. Them environemnts.

Edit: Excuse me. 1440p monitor.

There is almost no aliasing if you use Supersampling, and when it's off, it's not that bad.

As for the 'jankyness' of Metro's art, it's a bleak, war ravaged world destroyed but continuous gun fire, radiation, disease, filth, etc.... It's not supposed to be pretty. Yet, what they pulled off was a technical marvel unlike anything that's really been done from a real-time raytracing perspective. I wasn't trying to slight Death Stranding, but yeah. It's just isn't quite the same technical level as Metro, despite how good it looks. Neither will Detroit when it hits PC (which, until Death Stranding, I thought was the best looking game consoles had to offer).

Yes, I have played Shadow of the Colossus under those conditions. Beautiful game, but not on this level.
