History with loud fans tells me to wait. But I will have at least 2 at launch, 1 to have the other to sell. The ps4 I broke even as I sold the other one for $800 at launch last time.

pre-order ASAP of course, why wait!?

There are several reasons.

Waiting for a price drop if the price is too much for you.

Waiting for one or more games that appeal to you so you'll have a good reason to get it.

Waiting for reports of the issues a new hardware is bound to have, if they are big you might want to wait.

Waiting for the full reveal of both it and the new XBOX if you are undecided which might be a better choice for you.

And so on.

Personally if I could get it for a good price I would get it asap because I know the PlayStation will be the best choice for me before it even releases, because it has always been.

But here in Brazil for example what will cost people in USA $500 at launch (I guarantee that's the price) will cost around $1200, and I really don't plan on supporting that kind of ridiculous pricing or even spending that much money by itself, so I'll have to wait a good time until production of the system start to be done here and they slash the price to something like $800, then Sony slash the system price to $400 and some place makes a good deal for $600 so I can feel not abused enough and go get it.

So it's sadly not that simple as go and pre order it asap for a lot of places out there, but sure, if I could buy it for $500 at launch I would go for it without a second thought xD

wait 2/3 years to save 50 to 100$? lol no

there's always games that appeal to me, especially entering a new gen of gaming, especially now that we're looking at near 0 load times, etc

always bought my consoles day one and no issues so far, if anything on the PS3 gen, having the original hardware meant having access to full backwards compatibility while later iterations of the console lost it. on the vita meant having an OLED screen vs having an LCD on the latest iteration

not undecided in the least, know exactly what to expect from both 1st parties

and so on...

sounds like you should take a nice holiday abroad and in the meantime bring the hardware with you, it's ridiculous the taxation on game consoles there, but that's more of a country specific problem, not a real reason not to pre-order

I would love to be able to hold out for atleast 1 year, for the revised models with a most likely upgraded fan for less noise, and power consumption. But the temptation will be too strong i believe.

Worthy of consideration to be sure.

And BraLod, those prices....not that I wasn't aware of console costs in Brazil.....but ouch. Doesn't either MS or Nintendo manufacture in Brazil to keep costs down? I can't remember, but think I read that one of them does.

Chinese food for breakfast

If Gamestop is still around when it comes out I will more than likely purchase one near launch if they are giving $200 plus trading in the Pro for it. If not I will probably wait a year or two.

Yeah, coming back with one from there would be a damn lot cheaper xP

Now put those prices in perspective with the low payments people receive around here... yeah, ouch.

Nintendo doesn't even sell officially in the country anymore (or even translate their almost non story games to portuguese to begin with), they don't give a shit to us.

Both Sony and Microsoft have local production to keep costs down.

Sony usually takes a while to change from last gen to current gen production.

Microsoft is doing a pretty good job on keeping the XBOX with decent prices around here (it's cheaper than the PlayStation) and a had local production quicker too.

Microsoft is the company that invests the most in trying to keep priced lower for us.

I mostly wait a year or yearandhalf after launch,i use that time to finish everything i want to play on ps4 and in this kind of timeframe i always buy the nintendo console to catch up with that too.
PS + Nintendo has always resulted in great times for me(and a bit of PC on the side ofcourse)

Depends on a variety of factors including price and backwards compatibility.

When I bought my PS4, I barely used it for years due to a lack of exclusive software I wanted, and lack of compatibility with PS3 software, and I don’t intend on making that mistake again.

If it has complete backwards compatibility with PS4 and can effectively double as a Playstation 4 Pro, I would definitely buy it on launch day...unless it’s $600, in which case I will feel inclined to wait.

I also have a lot of PS4 games to finish... but if the PS5 gets "enhanced PS4 compatibility" where PS4 games run even better than on the PS4 Pro, I would finish these games on the new device.

Is it possible to buy me one too?

It wouldn't be unheard of, although I have been bit by buying consoles for extended family and friends in the past.

On two seperate occasions I have bought a console for someone, just for them to turn around and sell it, or give it to someone else.

Worst was one of my consins. I went over for a family event, and her parents were like everyone should check out her room, she re-painted it, and decorated it herself. She was around 15 at the time. Not only had I bought her a PS3, but I also gave her my SXRD when I bought my 1st 3D TV. I go in the room and there is a Vizio LCD and a Comcast Box, and nothing else. I was like "oh, you got a new TV". She is like, yeah, I sold the PS3 and TV, that is how I was able to make over my room".

The other time I bought a PS4 for a friend at work, because they wanted to play MLB The Show. They ended up Switching Jobs within the company, and a few weeks later they stopped being on PSN. After a few more weeks, I ran into them as they came back to the site I work at to get some certifications. I was like, "hey, I never see you on PSN anymore". The dude comes back, with, "Yeah, I gave the PS4 to my Girl".

I'm not against buying stuff for people, even people I don't know, but I am more cautious now than I was when I was younger. If it is within my means though, I love helping people out, and giving more people the oppertuinty to game.

A $500 console is a pretty tall order for someone I only know from a profile on a gaming site. Right now, I would have to say it is unlikley.

That's pretty incredible. and good on you for wanting to be generous with ppl you know. Sucks that some ppl didn't seem to care too much about the gift but I suppose since it is theirs they can do with it as they wish. but yeah, I guess the disappointment.

Though regardless of your financial situation , I do hope the PS5 is not overly expensive! Seems like you are going to be spending quite a bit!
