Forums - Movies & TV - Brie Larson teasing possible Star Wars involvement?

I liked her in 21 Jump St. That said, the only casting complaint I have had about the new Star Wars films were centered on the dude that played Solo. Solo is Ford, and should always be Harrison but the guy they casted didn't even talk or look like him.

Ooooooh my god! There's action movies with female leads in 2019; what an OUTRAGE!!

I doubt that's the actual issue most people have rather than a shield of ignorance. My problems with the new Star Wars sure has nothing to do with female lead or diverse cast.

I find that unlikely. Or else the people behind #StarWarsFans wouldn't also have been behind the campaigns against everything from Mad Max: Fury Road to Wonder Woman to the new Star Trek to Captain Marvel and every other geeky action movie and series that happens to have a prominent or leading female action character, and they might not create D-grade alternate versions with titles like "The Last Jedi: The De-Feminized Edition" with most of the female characters cut out of the movie.

I'm not saying all this material consists of masterpieces necessarily, but I am saying that there's a shared mentality to the most aggressive detractors.

I don't even know if it was the actor so much as the material he had to work with. I was surprised by the minimal volume of humor that the Solo movie featured for being about, well, a character best known for his witty lines and style. When I see a movie about this character, I go in expecting to laugh a lot and that only happened for me a couple times. It's too bad they decided against taking risks with the character that way. I think that's at the heart of why, be it in terms of critical scores, audience scores, or ticket sales, this was the least popular entry in the current generation of Star Wars films.

People complaining about too many female characters in movies is peak Status Quo Warrior. So fucking whiny, hard to imagine a stupider reason for being so.

Hmm... interesting. I can't stand Brie Larson (and Tessa Thompson while we're at it) and I hated both TLJ and Captain Marvel as much as the last Predator movie.

But guess what? I loved Wonder Woman, Ahsoka is one of my all-time favorite Jedis (just behind Yoda and Obi-Wan), Scarlet Witch and BW are two of my favorite Marvel characters, and Sarah Connor is one of my favorite CHARACTERS of all time.

Oh! and I'm that one guy who always plays as Sonya Blade and Chun-Li in MK and SF.

So no, I don't think people have an issue with Brie Larson because she is a female lead in an action movie. I think it has more to do with the fact that, in every interview she is in, she comes across as a pretentious and obnoxious...  person.

Lol, status quo warriors saying "I'm not an SQW, I liked these female characters and this movie about a female character!" is the new "I'm not racist, I have black friends!"

There seemed to be a portion of fans complaining the Last Jedi had been 'panderings to SJWs' and had too many prominent female characters. Around the release of Captain Marvel, I think Brie Larson was meant to have said something complaining about the all male crew on the movie or something like that.

So her being in Star Wars is likely to pour more fuel on the alt-right fire.

In reality it's more likely its that Feige gave her a call having worked with her on Captain Marvel. Directors do this all the time (Chris Nolan being a great example).

Lol, alt-right? It's hilarious how they have become the Boogeyman you can blame all of your problems on, now. Or just label anyone you disapprove of. Dislike of TLJ cuts through the complete political spectrum. It also had nothing to do with prominent female roles, but how they treated the male counterparts. Of course, the biggest sin was it's shitty plot and how it ruined Luke's legacy, as well as any good mysteries that TFA set up.

As for Brie Larson, she decided to insult all white men, saying their opinions didn't matter. Especially when it came to films that "weren't meant for them," like A Wrinkle In Time. Of course, it was just a shit adaptation of a novel written by a white woman who definitely would have spoken out against that message if she were still alive.

By alt-right, I more meant the more extreme reactions, like the de-feminized edit and the abuse of female actors such as Kelly Marie Tran. Mix that with Brie Larson's comments and you get more fuel on the wacko conspiracy thoery fire.

That is not to say all criticism of TLJ is alt-right, obviously it isn't. You mentioned how they treated Luke - I think that's a perfectly valid reason to hate on the film that has nothing to do with the alt-right. Personally I found sub-plot with the casino planet completely unnecessary and distracting. I also found the character of Rose Tico annoying (but that doesn't justify sending abuse to the actress). The film had some good ideas but wasted almost all of them.

Well, if not liking Brie Larson makes me a misogynist then I declare myself to be the biggest misogynist that has ever existed.

I have no feelings based on her being white, black, green, red, blue, female, male, attack helicopter or whatever she wants to be. I think she's very un-charismatic and not a good actor, Sam Jackson and the amazing cgi de-aging process made Captain Marvel a good movie, Brie was pretty unlikable as a character in it, she acts like she has the charisma of a Robert Downey Jr. Character but... he has that attitude towards others because of the fact that he is a playboy billionaire, her character before standing next to an engine exploding that she crashed during a test flight was a pretty good test pilot, her characters attitude and backstory do not line up at all.

She won't be the worst thing about any Star Wars movie coming out now though, that movie series should have finished years ago and was never $4b worth of franchise, Lucas was a genius to sell it for so much while retaining the rights to the best part, toy sales.

People should rally up and protect this Hollywood movie star though on twitter and stuff, make campaigns to go see the film regardless of what the movie is about or if it's any good, just like Ghostbusters 2016, damn man children told the internet it would be bad and look at just how wrong they were!
