so in the last 12 months the weekly sales of the X1 have dropped from around the 100k mark per week down to sub 40k, but the 3ds dropped from around 50k > 20k per week, what I'm thinking is, the 3ds still has a reason to be bought, it's a cheaper alternative to the Switch if you wanted to buy someone a handheld system which has a huge library of games, while the buying an x1 over the last 12 months has basically been getting a ps4 but worse and not particularly for less money either, considering that free2play games aren't free2play so budget gamers who want their fortnite should always pick ps4 over X1.

So.... what are the chances that the X1 sales continue to tumble and the 3ds continues to decline at the same % pace, could we see some weeks where the 3ds could actually sell above the X1? I know it would take a few months still before they would come that close to each other, but I'm just thinking around the holiday season, I would think that kids are more likely to end up getting a 3ds from older relatives than an Xbox one at times just because like I said... there's still a market for what the 3ds is offering, I think between PS4 , Switch and PC the X1's only main reason to exist now is fans of the brand, which as we see are in strong decline on a week to week basis.

Now this seems a bit of a stretch, I can't see Xbone falling below 3DS weekly numbers, especially not with the Lite set to soon replace 3DS as the affordable go-to portable. Xbox tends to have a disproportionate amount of its sales during the holidays; even when it founders through the year it somehow always does at least decently over the Xmas season.

I actually think it makes great sense.
Hardcore fans always buy the consoles early on, and usually demand alone from the hardcore, is enough to have things sold out or near it.
While the holidays is the time where more "normal" consumers, also get a console. However if their sold out at that time? its just missed sales.

Launching early, giveing the hardcore their console, and stockpileing backup for the holidays, means you dont run into supply issues, and miss out on maximising the effects of the holidays. 

That gap is probably gone in this year.... at this point, Im expecting the Switch to overtake the Xbox One, before the Xbox Two even launches.

That is pretty much given already. Switch will have surpassed most likely by December 2019. If Switch lite is a big fat huge success then even before holiday season (= before mid november) 2019, but I dont think so ;). When Scarlett launches in holiday season 2020 Xbox One will be far (2-digit million numbers) behind Switch.

That Mario Maker 2 effect is strong.  I didn't realize Switch would still be selling so well even during Mario Maker's third week.  Even Europe is still favoring Switch still.  One thing I think that really helps Mario Maker 2 is all of the Youtubers.  It seems like Mario Maker 2 is one of their favorite games.  I guess it is pretty easy for them to make a funny/interesting video since their are so many weird or super hard levels out there.  Mario Maker release is like Christmas for Youtubers.  Dunkey already has three Mario Maker 2 videos and he normally only makes 1 video per game.

This gap between Switch and PS4 (and everything else) is just going to keep growing.  Mario Maker 2 is just the first of a long line of new games coming to the Switch.  Throw in a couple new hardware models on top of all that.  This is just the beginning.  Switch dominates for the next few years to come.  Get used to it.

This may sound petty but one of the main draws of the charts for me these days is a morbid curiosity in seeing how low Xbone will go, it's like watching a car crash in slow motion.

Ha. Yep, the sales situation of the XBO are a source of interest to be sure. Looking forward to see how the holidays shake out.
