PARIS — A large fire broke out at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris on Monday evening, causing part of the historic church’s spire to collapse as the blaze spread along its roof.

André Finot, a spokesman for the cathedral, said in a telephone interview that the cause of the fire remained unknown, and there was no immediate indication that anyone had been hurt.

The 800 year old building which holds religious and historical significance is one fire. The spire has collapsed. I hope Paris can save as much of it as it can.

EDIT: The whole island that the cathedral is located on is being evacuated

EDIT 2: https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/15/paris-notre-dame-cathedral-on-fire-reuters.html

The fire seem to be fading and the building is "saved from total destruction". Good to hear this news. Many thanks to the brave firemen that are risking their lives to save this piece of history.

Just a few fun facts about this beautiful building:

Napoleon was crowned Emperor of France here

A piece of the possible cross that Jesus carried is held here

It is one of the last remaining buildings from medieval Paris

Interest in the building was revived after the publication of Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame

I just heard about it and seeing images of it engulfed in flames really broke my heart. Here's hoping that parts of it can be saved.

A tragic incident, shocking really. A dark day for France - I can barely watch the news. Hopefully nobody was hurt, it's already horrible enough as it is.

Goddammit...... One of the biggest historical landmarks of the world being destroyed like this..... This fucking sucks

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

21 century stinks.

I'm appalled, really.

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

Yeah been watching news for a couple hours now. Spire and roof have collapsed, fate of the big rose windows is uncertain. Here’s hoping the rib vault inner roof largely holds because it protects the inside.

So which century was better?

This is absolutely appalling. I hope the emergency teams can salvage as much as possible, this monument and all art inside is irreplaceable.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Wonder what caused the fire. Hopefully, it was natural causes or an accident. Would hate to hear someone was hateful enough to set fire to it or somewhere near it intentionally.

Well not really clear who is responsible but something happened due to or even during the renovations today that caused this fire quickly spreading.
