Forums - General Discussion - How did you discover VGChartz?

I used it as one source for sales data for my master's thesis.

Sometime in '07, I saw a report that said the Wii was outselling the PS3. Can't remember if it was a gaming mag or a G4 tv show. In any case, I said "BULLSHIT!" and Googled it. Vgchartz showed up and the rest is history.

Just trying to find out how many PS3s vs Xbox360s has been sold to win an argument about the 1 year launch difference. Still here.

.... why am i still here?

Hmm, pie.

I was searching for video game sales numbers are reading in a gaming magazine that Sony were struggling.

Before this site there used to be a forum on PC vs Console where they would post weekly MC chartz, UK charts, and monthly NPDs. Not sure if my memory serves me correctly or not, but I recall during the first few months of DS vs PSP, it was quite an even match, maybe even leaning towards PSP, at least in Japan.

I still have friends on PSN from that time, and I can still remember the epic trolls. There was this one guy named "Gripper" who was the biggest MS fanboy I've ever seen. To this day I'm not certain if his posts were legit or if he was just trying to induce a flame war in every thread.

A website which I can't remember the name of had a live counter of Wii vs 360 vs PS3. The numbers were re-aligned every so often and then just set to increment by `x` number of units every `y` seconds, so it seemed "live". Shortly after that I found VGC, located at vgcharts.net at the time. Lurked for years while still using the aforementioned forum for discussion, but eventually that forum died out and I spent more time here lurking.

When I bougth my PS3 in 2009 and was looking to comparisons between X360 and it this site appeared somewhere and when I entered and saw for some years the good discussions on sales and content on the consoles I decided to join.

Found out about VGC in 2011, used to be the biggest Nintendo fanboy back in the day - I was really curious about Wii numbers. Despite my interest in numbers, what actually kept me coming back for more were the forums/discussions.

Lurked for some time afterwards and finally joined in late 2013. ('cause I wanted to play some Luigi's Mansion 2 online haha)

I was worried about Bayonetta 2's sales and saw that it sold 650k and wanted to gloat about it (could have sworn VGC tracked it at that much after only like three weeks)

Much like a lot of people here, I wanted to see how much the Wii was selling and somehow stumbled here.
