Wonder if NISA will try get a port for Switch done again.

Was honestly surprised they didn't announce it for the Switch from the get-go considering the last game in the franchise got a Switch port and it's crucial market is Japan ...

Actually, Japan was the market the Switch version was doing worst according to VGC-data:

But Japan was also the region with the best PSV-sales for the game (outselling the PS4 version). As the new game has no PSV version it is an interesting question, if these sales would go to PS4 or Switch or both at the same rate. So yeah, I would've expected a Switch version from the get go, simply to test how this changed situation pans out. But probably Falcom simply has no Switch expertise in house and the publisher (NIS again?) decides about a possible port.

Makes sense since Ys VIII sold poorly on the Switch. Maybe they'll port this one after a year as well but nice addition for the PS4. Falcom knows where their fanbase is for these games, much like the Trails games. Sony and Falcom have a pretty good relationship and history with these types of franchises.

Poorly in japan, worldwide it sold pretty fine. And it was a late port, a same-day release would look a bit different. Also this time there will probably no PSV-version.

I think Ys VIII was a nice game and I look forward to the next installment. Will probably take some time though, until it reaches western shores.

I meant that Japan was a crucial market for the game franchise itself and a no simultaneous release on the Switch (if they ever decide to release it on the system) is eyebrow raising worthy ...

Since the game is probably releasing on PS4 first and is the obvious successor host for many of Vita's games when most of the fans probably own a PS4 as well, I'd imagine it'd be more productive to get the game soon than to wait possibly months down the line for a portable version of the game so PS4 will probably come out on top down to the staggered release schedule if any ...

Great to see that 3rd party japanese support continue

Switch sales don't seem that different overall in Japan tbh. 30k (Switch) vs 80k (PS4) but the first figure is half a year vs the second being one year and a half. Honestly just seems like they dont have the resources to make a simultaneous port release, either that or they assessed the situation and found going with the PS4 only to be more cost effective and more important (which it is).

Looking at the platforms Falcom produces for would tell you what you need to know.

They prioritise PS , and even PC over all other platforms.

They have rarely ever supported a Nintendo device

True. As I said, they probably don't have Switch expertise in house. NIS is a different story though. I think NIS was behind the Switch port of VIII and the situation might turn out similar for this one.

Well we don't know what the game looks like. That said, Ys switch sold incredibly poorly in Japan, and Falcom are pretty much PS only Devs.

They seem to be heading into PC gaming a lot which is great. Still need to playbeat Trails of Cold Steel 2.
