Forums - Nintendo - So, when is Persona 5 going to be announced & released for the Switch?

I'm in the Persona for Switch camp and I guess we'll see it in 2019. I doubt Nintendo added Joker as a character just because he's in Persona Q2. This is quite some marketing for Atlus, so they will give Nintendo something in return - maybe not P5 if Sony has the exclusivity rights to that but it's the most likely scenario I think. People say Nintendo simply puts characters in Smash as long as they had some game on a Nintendo platform. But this time Nintendo's higher-ups are in charge and decide who gets in and they are going to use Smash as a means of getting good deals with other publishers. And Joker isn't as well-known as a character like Cloud. So Atlus will have to give something in return.

You never know about that, nothing suggest us that Sony can't do it, because if Sony don't ps4 ver will be the worst and can't sell

Yes, but by the same token Sony might find problems trying to push around a big studio like Atlus (owned by Sega) instead of more niche developers. While it's true that they would lose quite a chunk of sales if they decide to not port it to the PS4, Atlus/Sega could also take advantage of that and make a deal with Ninteno for patronage of the title. Hell, maybe Microsoft could come and offer to pay the port for the XBOne to make their platform look better than the PS4.

Yeah, but if P5 is indeed come to Switch then no reason SMTV can't come to ps4. Also, we don't know how long SMTV has been developed, what if Atlus delay Switch ver a bit to make both ver release the same day? And if SMTV come to ps4, then welcome the censorship and cut contents

I know, and I'd be happy if both games were available for the two audiences. But if SMT V is develope with the Switch in mind, and then Sony demands changes to all versions, Sega/Atlus might just say "fuck it" and keep it out of any PS device.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Not P5 but SMTV, what if Atlus make a ps4 ver too in exchange? PS4 will have censorship with nudity/sexual scenes and likely Switch ver will be the same since Sony will demand Atlus to do that

The thing is, SMTV will be first on Switch, if not forever exclusive. If it does come to PS4, it would be down the line so it wouldn't impact the Switch

We don't know when it will be released, Atlus can total delay the game a bit to make the release of both ver are the same. If P5 come to Switch, the higher chance SMTV will come to ps4, the higher chance Switch ver will be the same as ps4 ver

That's just unrealistic, let's be honest. That isn't happening. We aren't even sure if a PS4 version is happening.

Not really sure about that, Sega/Atlus games is nowhere as important as Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts and most JP 3d parties need Sony more than Sony need them

You never know with Sony new policy. "We aren't even sure if a PS4 version is happening", same as P5 on Switch

There's also no reason that both series aren't coming to PC if they stop exclusivity anyways. It happened to Danganronpa, Zero Escape, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Bayonetta and many many other Japanese games.

And Sony can't enforce censorship for the PC versions which would help the position for an uncut Switch version.

I was referring to the game being delayed to match a ps4 release. The game is made with Switch in mind, and the team has spoken on why it is a switch exclusive. If a ps4 version comes, it won't be launch day. Also, it makes more sense for p5 to be ported to Switch than SMTV to be ported to ps4 for now

Out of all the popular genres in Japan, the JRPGs sell exceptionally well in handhelds, considering their pick-up and play nature. And considering the Switch is quickly reaching PS4 numbers in Japan, japanese publishers might not feel that going through the hustle of PS4's censorship might be worth it if there's a pretty decent alternative. Not to mention the growing PC market for JRPGs.
