Forums - Sales Discussion - Mega Man 11 FW Sales

For a Megaman game, it did fine. Megaman was never a huge seller. And Capcom already mentioned to be satisfied with the sales.

Switch Friend Code: SW - 1286-0025-9138

As Rol says, Mega Man has never been a high selling series. Capcom reported that as of December 31st 2013 the Mega Man series had sold 30m copies. These sales come from a massive 131 titles (same game on each platform is counted separately). Which means a Mega Man title sell 0.22m per system on average.

If they sell so low why do they keep making Mega Man games then?

They don't cost a lot to make. Making 10 games for a total of $50m and getting 2.5m sales is just as good as making one game that costs $50m and getting 2.5m sales.

Although the Switch version sold best, it didn't release physically on it in Europe, so it could have higher than average digital sales on the system.

Honestly, I think it's doing OK. Also, considering the Switch version only got a physical version in north america and Japan, there's likely a good chunk of sales not in these estimations.

Not fantastic sales by any means, but ot catastrophically bad either.

Mega Man has never been some sales juggernaut. To this day the best-selling game in the series is still Mega Man 2 with around 1.5 million copies sold. As far as I'm concerned those FW sales for the series are really good, and they don't even include digital sales or European sales because we didn't get a physical release at all. As such they are likely a fair bit higher than VGChartz figures are showing.

It’s actually much better. If you make 10 games for $50m you can probably afford 1 or 2 being flops. Making one game for $50m and it duds might very well screw you over.

Economics 101: risk diversification

They don't. This is the first game in a long time if I recall correctly

This is a game that is most likely AT LEAST 50% digital if not even more.

Also I'm surprised that Capcom hasn't continued the Battle Network and Star Force series, because those ones sold consistently amazingly well (at least compared to the main core series).

Uhhh... it's at least 200K first week with digital sales (I'd guess more but we'll be conservative). For a short 2D platformer, I think that's plenty good.
