Forums - Gaming Discussion - FFXV Director "Tabata" has left Square Enix

I liked his work in Crisis Core but from what FFv13 was from Nomura to what became of FFXV it seems Tabitha really fumbled with the game. I think Nomura's vision of FFv13/FFXV would've been way better and better executed at launch if Square just kept him on and let him focus on it.

I was really looking forward to other DLC too!! I hope Nomura can just quickly finish them off after he finishes KH3 before going back full force in FF7 Remake.

Nomura eventually wanted to turn Final Fantasy XV into a musical, so I'm sure it would have been interesting.

loll did not know that, probably after the actual game was done then produce a musical?

I just really wish Nomura stayed on and played the game he envisioned.  It could've been a much bigger sucess and better game, but we'll never know now :(

When a studio causes a 33m loss in 6 months the's going to be trouble this shows the disaster of AAA approaches if you don't have GTA and RDR in your portfolio.

false.

Nomura had to help other projects multiple times. SE made him postpone his project to help with FFXIII/FFXIII-2/Lightning Returns FFXIII, and to help save FFXIV.

Also let me remind you, FFXIV is a smashing success, and is also SE most profitable game, AND XIV's revenue pays for a lot for XV. So thanks Nomura. Wouldn't even have an FFXV without FFXIV and its devoted community.

Oh get off your high horse. One game doesn't "pay" for another one. They pay for themselves. Only an idiot would make a game knowing they're going to lose money on it but do it anyway just because some other game is making money.

And there absolutely would have been an FFXV without FF Online 2, and it would have come much sooner as well!

Amazing how you use this revisionist history to excuse Nomura/Squenix's incompetence and unreliability.

Fact is that they wouldn't have needed another game to help fund FFXV's ridiculously bloated budget, if they hadn't flushed so much of it going around in circles (on Nomura's lead) in the first place. And they wouldn't have needed Nomura's help with rebooting FFXIV if they hadn't made a complete disaster of that the first time around. How can you even ignore these simple realities?

Both of you need to grab a chair and sit down. Don't try to divert from the hard facts.

Don't be jealous of the success of FINAL FANTASY XIV. Ya'll being petty.

Bye felicia

Lets have a moment of silence for those that spent $250 on the collectors edition. The promise of fixes to the story are gone.

I am currently on a gaming vacation but I had to log back in to comment on this event.

It is absolutely embarrassing that SE decided to send of XV like this, especially with the reception all over the place. This is how the game is going to be remembered in the end. I don't know what what fuck happened, but for Tabata to be fired (most likely what happened) or to be so angry that he walks out months after SE praised his development team for their tech and success on the game, then following all that with his own studio. It was not amicable separation thats for sure.

This guy comes in and cleans up a mess of a game the best of his ability and that this is what it gets him? Logging out.

I highly doubt that. And Versus XIII looked a hundred times better than FFXV turned out. And stop saying it's Nomura's mess. I'm pretty sure Square Enix is the one who assigns projects, it's not his choice.

Tabata did not Finish his game he Remade it. It's debatable if FFXV was even a "Finished" game.

I bought the collector's edition and its still very much well worth it with tons of goodies.  I dont need a moment of silence :)

Im not gonna lie: I didnt like his work on FF XV, so I wont say I am sad by this news.Having said that, this was kind of nowhere.Tabata was just given a team, just started working on a new game, and to cap it off, they announced all this bad stuff on the stream, canceling FF XV DLCs left and right?Something is off.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

FFXV was a big dissapointment. And yes, i don't think FFVII has aged well. The problem is the top notch single-player JRPGs have been kinda stuck compared to top notch western counterparts.

He's the guy that actually produced a game. Nomura spent 7 years on the and had nothing to show for it but trailers. It's crazy to me that the guy that was brought in to clean up his mess and produced a game in 3 years is gone. Good luck FFVII fans good old Nomura is in charge of the FFVII Remake. You all are about to get Duke Nukem Forever'd

Nomura had nothing to do with XIV. He wasn’t brought in to save it. That was, and still is, Naoki Yoshida.
