Forums - Nintendo - Wii, third party support by the end of this gen?

Ajax said:
in the end the Wii is a Gamecube 2.0 with motion controls..

doesn't make it bad, or not next-gen
look at some amazing games on it

but Nintendo actually recycled the Gamecube with new controls..
very clever idea though and a good business move as we have witnessed.

I think that could be an oversimplification, but its an acceptable opinion, nonetheless.

it will get all the casual and crappy games like Barbie the videogame that would loose money on the 360/ps3 and it will have a lot of crap ports and it will have a few built from the ground up good wii games, but will never be the lead platform to develop for when it comes to huge 3rd party games like fallout3 and prototype

Come on man, just don't. There's no need for that.

Also...why is bluray considered the next gen when it comes to movies when all it offers is a prettier picture? Silence of the Lambs is not a better movie cause its on bluray... Yet when it comes to videogames, you people claim visuals don't matter. Sounds like some people here are in denial or hypocritical on the graphics issue...

I'm not sure what you are trying to say since this is a contradiction.  Do you mean Silence of the Lambs is not better because it's on Bluray, and games are not better with better graphics?  Or do you mean Silence of the Lambs is better because it's on Bluray, and games are better with better graphics?

Im saying that the movie is the same...but it is considered the next step because it looks better. Therefore a game that looks better should be considered the next step too no? Guitar Hero 3 looks better on ps360 than Wii...is it not a better game experience?

I wouldn't consider the movie the next step just because it looks better.  The media a film is on has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the movie.

I've played Guitar Hero 3 on both the 360 and Wii, and they are both the exact same game experience.  The only thing the 360 version has over the Wii version is the DLC, and considering I hardly play the bonus tracks already on the disk, that is no big loss to me.

Games are about having fun, and for the most part, the game play mechanics are what dictates the level of fun in a game.  High end graphics are a bonus, but by no means necessary.

Obviously you havent played it on a large TV screen and in surround sound. You obviously don't own a ps3 or an xbox if you don't think DLC is a big deal. I've spent 80 bucks on rock band DLC alone...

New Halo map pack just came out...for free and I'm having more fun with that than anything I've played on the wii since RE4 4 months back. And it was free...

For wii only owners, DLC really can not be understood as Wii games are not designed in a way they can use DLC to an advantage. The only think I can think of is like a new event in mario and sonic olympic games or something like that...that would be kinda cool.

I will not argue here anymore as I feel like I'm arguing against the whole site...but I do feel that nintendo is getting love from everyone just for being nintendo. Wii mote is basically a cool experiment accessory that worked out big for ninty when it came to sales. I appreciate they took the risk, but to do this, they cut the user short on many aspects that are standard with the other 2 consoles. Its not like they don't have the money to compete as they are a bigger company than whole of Sony electronics division so they could have included better hardware and bought some dedicated servers for an online comunity. When Nintendo releases their next system and is accepting HD gaming with DLC and all the jazz...I guess most of you will be on here and still praise them for evolving...

Why would the Wii get any 3rd party support? According to some analysts its bubble is about to burst. The PS3 will pass it soon and in 2-3 years the Wii HD will come out. Nintendo only make sequels. It is the same old kiddy games. It is not new and fresh games like GT 5, GTA 4, MGS 4, Silent Hill 5, Resident Evil 5, Final Fantasy XIII, Madden (insert year here).

Think about it for a moment. 3rd paties can waste 50 million on a PS360 game and sell around 1 million copies. On the Wii they would waste 10 million and sell 700 k at most. It is basic math. 1 million is higher than 700k, 60 million in revenue is bigger than 35 million.

Also, developers are not making games for profit only. Their major concern is to push the hardware to its limits and deliver high budget games. That is why the Wii is a non factor this generation.

Please label you sarcasm, lol. ALWAYS label sarcasm on the internet.

Adding no /sarcasm makes it seem funnier, though :)

And since pretty much everyone in this thread what was necessary I don't feel a need to restate things in my own words...

Are you trolling on my thread soriku? if you are not contributing to the thread then don't post.(jK)

I think so. I suppose that by the end of this year the 3d party supposrt will increase.

The question is it will be the same as the PS3/Xbox360? Maybe not but you never know. So far, 3d party companies are making junk games because many of them doesn't understand the philosphy of the wii.l They got used to the "more is better" tend since the Playstation era. I think is just a matter of time.

Wii will get the support because it sells the most

As self proclaimed expert for sarcasm, I have to tell you that he wasn't being sarcastic. Just look through his posting history, posts like this are a common thing for him. That's really how he views the world.

That's impossible, lol. Just do the numbers in his cost of 50 million but sell 1 million, vs cost of 10 million, but sell 700,00, comment.

It's GOT to be sarcasm, or I've never truely detected it.

@Resident_Hazard

You keep stressing during your last post the following about Wii games compared to ps360..."Graphically, it would be less impressive. That's it."

PS360 has the upper hand in much more than graphics... Lets say Resident Evil has an issue, glitch...and needs to be fixed. Patch for the wii? Not possible...
New Zombie bosses get made by capcom...DLC...Wii can't do it.

Everyone thinks that motion controller is the next step... I think its far from it. Its a method to play your game and thats it.

Like chop sticks versus a fork. Sure its exciting to use chopsticks at first but after a while once the user gets used to it, its the same experience and the type of meal itself matters more. And developers can do much more with the ps360 meal than the wii meal.

I don't want people to get the wrong idea. I've always suported nitnendo and will continue to do so. Wii sports still gets played by me and my freinds almost weekly. But when people state that wii will have the best 3rd party support...which is something i completely disagree with, i have to argue my point.

Wait, the Wii can't do DLC? Man someone better go tell Square-Enix that. They just released a Wiiware game that is supposed to have DLC later on. Man won't their faces be red when they read that it isn't possible.

No it wasn't a huge screen, but it was surround sound.  It's the same experience.  I'm not sure why you think slightly better character models would make a better gaming experience, especially when you should be watching the notes.  Again, why would I care about DLC if I don't even play the bonus tracks included on the disc.  I generally don't download extra content for games on the PC either (maybe if it's free).

Nintendo is not bigger than Sony.  Not sure why you think that.  Also, the Sony gaming division can also take losses for months on end, while Nintendo cannot.

It seems like we differ on what makes a good gaming experience.  I think it's the gameplay, while the features you think are important I view as secondary.
