That worked so well for the GDR (German Democratic Republic)...

To be honest it worked pretty well on the purpose of preventing people to go in or out. Like it or not, walls works.

The only wall that separted East and West Germany was the Berlin Wall the rest of border was secured by fences.  Also for the most part walls don't work.  The only wall that actually somewhat worked was the Great Wall of China but that was effective because it was build way before any modern transportation hit the scene.  In todays world walls are highly inefficient and a giant waste of money.

Well Trump already hung out with a ton of crooks before he was president so Bannon and the other associates that got arrested so far should be no big surprise.

People could get in, the problem was more to get out again, which was the actual purpose of the wall, despite it's official name (Antifaschistischer Schutzwall; Antifaschist Protection Wall). The GDR was bleeding talent left and right and had to find a way to stop all their citizens fleeing to the west. Since the blockade or West Berlin failed, the Soviet ran out of option to prevent the bleeding any other way than wall in their citizens.

More importantly, it was much more than just a wall. Behind it, it had guards with orders to shoot on sight, automatic firing guns, land mines, tripwires, barbed wires, small spikes to pierce your feet, and so on, anything to bog down any attempt to flee to the west. It was way more than just a wall (and it was actually 2 walls, an inner wall and an outer wall).

A wall alone is useless. It would have the same effect as the Chinese wall had on keeping the Huns out: none at all (for the record, the Huns entered China through a door that had not been closed correctly). Since the wall was so damn long, it was impossible to patrol or check every part of it, meaning it's defensive purpose was undermined by reality right from the start, and a border Wall between the US and Mexico would have he exact same problems.

To build a wall and keep strangers out.

They had towers and soldiers too.... and people still got over it.

Also, what I missed to mention is one important difference: It was built to not let people out instead of not letting them in. The actually correct analogy would be then that the wall is getting build to not let Americans flee from Trump by going to Mexico...

I’ve seen enough data to know walls do work. It’s a big help in countries like Israel and Hungary. It’s not the only thing needed to prevent illegal immigration, but it’s part of the security we should have. I supported a wall before Trump, I voted for Trump in 2016, and I support a wall today. Especially working with legal and illegal immigrants for several years and seeing the disastrous effects and immoral unethical policies in action. There’s so much wrong with our immigration system that needs cleaned up. Even legal immigration is too open with H-1B visas. Corporations using American workers to train their replacements. Illegal immigrants stealing from the middle class. America and Europe are being invaded.

Hey I'm not the one who made the analogy with the Berlin wall, although I still think walls do work and work really well. Of course it is not 100% as just any other deterrent but it helps a lot if you want to keep people out and have a proper immigration system instead of mass uncontrolled immigration. By the way building a wall was the first thing the BLM/Antifa peaceful protesters did when they peacefully created their own autonomous state.

Please stop, the US Border Patrol can only get so erect.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

No that was me.

And it wasn't meant to be a physical image, it is all about a mindset.

The US, thanks to Orangehead, has turned from an open society into a closeminded society: "Everyone is the enemy, and I have to be first, it is all about me".

Call it a mental wall. If you look into history, it has happened before, and never had a good end. Orangehead has turned the US into the laughing stock of the world. Obviously noone is going to tell you that openly, but the signs are all over the wall if you connect the dots.

It will take decades to repair the damage Orangehead is busy doing and will continue to do (and I'm afraid Biden is no match for a Trump).

Yeah nope for the most part walls don't work, they really only work well on a small scale.  Also you need to check actual immigration numbers for the US its not being invaded.  You know what actually is way more effective then walls is oceans and even that doesn't stop people from fleeing terrible places around the world.
