Oh, you can be damn sure I have no sympathy for you either.

I haven't asked for any.  I didn't make a post on VGC complaining about fascism, then complaining about the the "fascist" trying to give people the means to defend themselves against their (very bad, according to you) government.

You gotta wake up dude.  You're standing in your own way.

Or maybe he's just a pacifist, and it isn't a political thing? I mean if I were forced to live in Brazil I'd consider it for purely practical reasons knowing what I know about the current climate there (not even just political, but cultural), but I can respect if a dude is just against that sort of thing. So should you Mr. Freedom. Sure it's not the most pragmatic thing to be pacifist or anti-weapon in a society that's actually collapsing around you, but you of all people should understand the desire of a person to live life the way they want to, and for him, that's weapon free. And a politician doesn't have to check off literally every box to be a fascist, nor do they have to be literally fascist to be horrifically authoritarian so as to inspire the kind of sadness he's feeling. Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin are on opposite ends of the supposed left-right political spectrum, but I'd be pretty sad to live under either horrifically authoritarian regime, and I think so would he, and you, if you're being honest, would prefer the USA's not nearly as authoritarian government to China, Russia, or North Korea.

I didn't say he has to own a gun.  I told him that if he wants to be free of tyranny, he better have something to dissuade the state from doing whatever the he'll it wants without fear if meaningful resistance.  And, in context, the comment was about the OP calling someone a fascist, then saying one of their big issues trying to arm the populace.  Those are, practically speaking, opposites.

For the record, I'm a pacifist (though I don't like the connotations of that word), and I do prefer living in the USA to those worse places you mentioned.

Also, for the record, the politician in question probably is a fascist, or at least very close to it.  I'm not defending that scumbag.  I'm trying to stop the OP from advocating for his neighbors to bend over and take whatever the fascist gives em.

So I just found this image based on Umberto Eco's Ur-Fascism describing the Signs of Fascism, and Bolsonaro checks ALL the boxes (except for the ones that require him to have considerable power, of course, because he hasn't risen to power yet).

1) Powerful and Continuing Nationalism: Bolsonaro's famous for saying that "Brazil is his party", and his supporters usually wear shirts saying that.

2) Disdain for Human Rights: Bolsonaro's gone into record saying that Human Rights are bad for Brazil and that he'll cut all contributions going to NGOs and Human Rights movements.

3) Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats: For Bolsonaro and his supporters, PT is the source of all evil.

4) Supremacy of the Military: That's the easiest one. Bolsonaro used to be on the military and is famously a supporter of the military dictatorship that happened in Brazil from 1964 to 1985.

5) Rampant sexism: "I have five children. There were four men, and in the fifth I got weak and it came out a woman". "I would not rape you. You don't merit that". "She doesn't deserve it [to be raped] because she's very bad, she's very ugly. She's not my type, I'd never rape her."

6) Controlled mass media: Doesn't have the power to do that yet.

7) Obsession with National Security: It's the issue Bolsonaro most frequently mentions.

8) Religion and Government are Intertwined: Bolsonaro's campaign motto is "Brazil above anything. God above everyone." He said in a campaign rally: "There's no such thing as a Secular State. It (Brazil) is a Christian State! And for those who are bothered by that, move to another country!"

9 & 10) Corporate Power is protected and Labor Power is suppressed: He's a believer in the idea that "Brazilian workers have to choose between having more jobs and less rights or less jobs and more rights", an idea that has been spread by company owners and bankers.

11) Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts: He's proposing the extinction of the Ministry of Culture (reducing it to a Secretary inside the Ministry of Education) and the Rouanet Law, that enables artists to raise funds for projects.

12) Obsession with Crime and Punishment: One of the things Bolsonaro is most famous for doing is saying that "a good criminal is a dead criminal". He said in an interview that criminals aren't "normal human beings" and that a cop has to be awarded for "killing 10, 15 or 20 with 10 or 30 bullets for each one of them."

13) Rampant Cronyism and Corruption: While Bolsonaro hasn't had the chance to put people he likes in power instead of competent ones, he put his whole family in politics. Three of his sons, Carlos, Flávio and Eduardo, are active politicians (his other son is studying Law, and therefore can't take part in politics at the moment and his daughter is a child). His ex-wife, Rogéria, was elected twice while she was married to him. In the topic of corruption, he laundered 200 thousand reais from JBS, a famously corrupt company that he already admitted to not being licit, with the excuse that "every party does that".

14) Fraudulent elections: Doesn't have the power to do that yet.

Saying that Bolsonaro is not a fascist in the slightest is either ignorance, naivety or dishonesty.

Fair enough. I take this politician's desire to arm the populace as being directed at arming specifically only his supporters, or encouraging them to arm in support of him. Brazil is already nearly as violent as Mussolini's Italy, I can only imagine what will happen when someone with similar political instincts if not the same basic political philosophy gets into power. Honestly if things get much worse, even I'm going to give up on government. We'd probably have a much easier time uniting around common causes if there weren't political party loyalties clouding everyone's judgement. I'd say I'd miss the constitutional rights, but those aren't evenly enforced anyway. I'm not quite ready to give up on it yet, but I'm beginning to understand the appeal of your position.

Talk about not answering anything. You didn't answer a single one of the things I pointed out, so I must conclude that you agree that Bolsonaro is indeed a fascist according to Eco's definition. That video is basically the audiovisual equivalent to the incredible argument "no u". Saying that PT is fascist and planning to "control all media" is so stupid, they were in power for 14 years and didn't even get close to attempting that.

You seem to be one of those people that automatically assume that I love PT and communism because I hate Bolsonaro. You couldn't be more wrong. I would consider myself centre-left, and my candidate for this year was Marina. I'd rather have Meirelles be the president than Haddad. I hate Lula so much. I hate Haddad, I hate PT. But damn do I love democracy.

As a bisexual person, I feel threatened by Bolsonaro. And I know many people who feel the same way that I do. If it hurts my existence, I will be resistance.

Luckily, you saying he's all those things doesn't mean it's actually true.  You'll be fine.

Most, if not all,of the points you wrote is not only refuted by the video, which actually defines what facism actually is, but also by the myriad of posts I have already done in this thread. What Bolsonaro attempts to do, at the very least in most of his propositions, is the opposite of what you would define as a facism regime. If you really want to know, just read through them.If you cant see the direction PT wants to go with the country at this point, you are either blind or are just fooling yourself. With all the financing and backing that they have done with actual dictatorships, the overall guidelines they have for its party, its the only conclusion you can arrive. Its just that you dont create a dictatorship overnight. It took several years for Venezuala to be were they are(which is an actual dictatorship now), same with Cuba back in the 50s(?).The reason PT or any other party with similar intent as them havent managed to do that, just fuck the country up, is that we are a much bigger country than any other in most countries in the Americas, so it requires more effort, and Brazil is much more educated than them, which also makes it harder for it to be accomplished.

And we are at a point that its not a situation that "I dont approve PT but I dont like the other candidate", we are at a moment in history that its either you approve all the shit they have done these 16 years and think that they are not so bad, or you want changes, you want a chance for the country to try something different and have a shot at getting better.

If you trully believe the lies that the opposition is spreading, as you definelly did with the sentences "But damn do I love democracy" and "As a bisexual person, I feel threatened by Bolsonaro", then its not my fault that you are gullible and you are part of the problem that Brazil is as it is.Believing that the country will become a dictatorship either just because Bolsonaro is a military(lol) or whatever other reason you have for believing that, and that he will ban homosexuallity or other variants that are not heterosexuality is simply stupid, just because he is not the biggest fan of gay people. He simply has too many actual problems to deal with, to worry about things like that. And its not I, a straight person, that I am saying it.I have countless gay friends and people that I know that say the same.

Do me a favor:Dont rely solely on facebook and Whatsapp to keep you informed.Do actively search for news about the candidates, study their backgrounds and truly learn about what they propose. If your biggest gripe with a candidate are lies and exxagerations, then you are voting the right way.

No, the video doesn't explain any of the points I made. Sílvio explains what fascism is, but whose definition of fascism are you most likely to trust, the youtuber Sílvio's or Umberto Eco's? If you think PT wants to turn Brazil into a communist dictatorship, you're completely crazy. PT was in power for 14 fucking years and Dilma left Brazil very far from a dictatorship. As you said, a dictatorship doesn't happen overnight. If PT really wanted to make Brazil a communist country, don't you think they'd have started it in 2002?

Are you sure Brazil is more educated than Cuba and Venezuela? Maybe that's just your mind making stuff up. In UN's 2009 Education Index, ranking education quality from 0 to 1, Cuba scored 0.993, Venezuela scored 0.921 and Brazil scored 0.891. Btw, PT didn't just "fuck the country up". Lula actually made a lot of positive changes during his government.

Believe me, I don't approve 90% of what PT did. And I would gladly give a shot at any other candidate, just not Bolsonaro. I don't approve 100% of what Bolsonaro did in all his years in Congress, and his speech is fascist as fuck. I'm not voting 13 for PT, I'm voting 13 against Bolsonaro.

I don't need to believe in lies spread by the opposition to hate Bolsonaro. I hate him for what he says about almost everything. He's just really stupid. As a bisexual person, I feel threatened by Bolsonaro not because I think he'll personally demand people to kill me because of my sexuality. I feel threatened because what he says validates people who would actually do that. Bolsonaro "is not the biggest fan of gay people"? It's not just that. He thinks I'm bi because my parents didn't beat me. He would beat me if he saw me kissing another guy. He thinks my parents should have spanked me as soon as I began to "act" bi. He thinks I'm bi because I "wasn't well-educated". He would rather see one of his sons killed than dating another man. He thinks my parents shouldn't be proud of me. He thinks my sexual behaviour is as bad as a paedophile's. Do you understand why I feel threatened? But then again, it's impossible to understand until you actually feel it. But I have faith in people having a bit of empathy.

I don't think Brazil will turn into a dictatorship just because Bolsonaro is in the military. I never said that. I think he wants to turn Brazil into a military dictatorship because he praises what happened between 1964 and 1985.

"He has too many actual problems to deal with to worry about things like that". Well, apparently he doesn't because he talks a lot about homosexuality. If he really cared about the "real" problems (social progress is not a real problem? Brazil being the LGBT murder capital is not a real problem? You don't really have any empathy, do you?) he would act like Alckmin, not mentioning homosexuality even once.

I don't use Facebook and I only use WhatsApp for personal stuff, and no one sends me any "news" through it. I researched each and every (relevant) candidate, and Marina was my choice. But between Haddad and Bolsonaro, I'm voting for Haddad no doubt (I would vote even for a sea cucumber if it was against Bolsonaro). Don't act like you like Bolsonaro because of his government proposals, let's be frank here. He has the weakest and most broad (and sometimes impossible to do) proposals. But okay, name one of his proposals that you actually like and explain to me how he would do that. And again, my gripes with Bolsonaro are not based on lies or exaggerations, they're based on what he says and does himself.

That educational index from UN is really, really fucked up, if they really think those three countries are really that high up in terms of education quality across these countries, just saying. In those type of things, I trust that part of UN as much as UN Human Rights division when they said that Lula should be able to run for presidency because thats "against democracy", when he isnt running because he is a criminal and is in jail because of it(For your information, thats the kind of "Human Rights" Bolsonaro and pretty much everyone is against.A kind of human rights which is only worried to push political agendas)

For your question in the first paragraph, yes.Plain as that.

For your third paragraph: Thats the problem with most people that is voting for Haddad. They are not voting on Haddad because they believe in him, think that he is qualified for the job or thinks that his proposals are good. They are voting in him because Bolsonaro "was so mean to say the things he said".They agree with his proposals, his overall plans for the government, but "My god he said that he is against the Gay Kit, so he must really hate gay people and wants to kill them!" so he will vote for the opposition and fuck the consequences.Of course Im simplifying things here, but you get the jist.

About the fourth paragrap:As I have said again and again, all a bunch of exagerations, sentences taken out of context and lies, with a pinch of unfortunate statements. If you wanna better know my opinion, just go back to my previous statements. And if you really feel like all these lies about what he thinks about one thing or another is more important than his competence on running a country, then I gotta say buddy, you have got your priorities on the wrong place.

About your fifth statement:For all the shitty things that happened betwenn 64 and 85, the country did grew in that period. It grew alot actually. We only have things like Itaipu and a shitload of highways because of them.So whats wrong to praise where praise is due.Not everything is purely evil and has no good in it.Praising that period of time is not approving the regime, nor how they did it to get those results.

About the sixth paragraph:He talks alot about sexuality because people dont stop pestering him about that topic.Plain and simple.About the social problems you mentioned: of course he cares about them.Thats why he talks about security so damn fucking much.Or do you think that LGTB people are some kind of animals that arent considered as human beings, so that his policies for safety and security will just be applied to a group of people?Murder is murder and violence is violence, and thats it.Gosh, talk about being narrow-minded....

About your seventh paragraph:Then you better get back to it, because you havent done a proper job at researching it.
