Just looked it up, Switch already beat the GameCube in Japan.
N64, Saturn and Vita are up next and will be overtaken soon. (500-800k ahead so not much)
PS4 is a bit further but Switch will also get there pretty soon. I think Switch could overtake the PS3 before the PS4.

Much of this success can be attributed to Splatoon 2. It has 52% attach rate in Japan. Good move by Nintendo.

Switch will catch the PS3 before PS4? There's no guarantee the PS4 will even reach PS3  numbers and even if it does, there's not much chance PS4 will hit 10m before Switch.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

very good news.

Yeah exactly. Switch will easily pass ps4 before ps3. Switch will probably pass ps4 at around 9 million and ps3 is up at ~10.5 million. Switch will probably pass PS4 next summer and then with the holiday boost it'll probably pass PS3 December 2019. I think PS4 will pass PS3 but it'll probably be end of 2020 at which point PS5 will be out.

I think the Switch has a shot of catching it at the end of Q4 '18.

Nice, that you included other systems time to that milestone. I thought 3DS must have lost steam later on, but looking at the list I realize that 3DS is actually pretty strong in Japan, currently 3rd in total sales (only topped by Gameboy and naturally DS). There are five systems sitting between 5 and six million units in Japan (which Switch should beat this year): N64, Sega Saturn and the Vita. After that is a big gap with only the PS4 in it, which obviously is still a moving target. The next settled target is PS3 with just above 10 million units. Can Switch get there next year? Possible.

Hmmm... 16th spot for the Switch. But the N64 is only 500k in front, and 800k for both Saturn and Vita, so the Switch should overtake them before the end of the year.

After the Vita there's a big hole, next is the PS4 but that one's still selling (yeah I know, the Vita too, but just barely, following then is the PS3 at over 10M already, so that's gonna take a while longer. 10th spot is the Wii at 12.77M Will the Switch surpass it before the end of next year? Let's see...

Nintendo better think of a Splatoon spinoff to capitalize on this, they have inked gold here. This is the game that's going to sell their online service in Japan.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Read my words: Switch is going to outsell PS4 in Japan.

Out of the four that are ahead of it, the Switch should have no probl ma passing the Wii and GBA.
3DS is going to be a tougher battle that I am not entirely sure of. I don’t think it’s going to catch the DS.
