Well, at least they have their Walking simulators with photorealistic graphics.

You think there's no place for them on a console?

Cause a lot of people seem to enjoy those,i myself aint into shooters but that doesn't mean they aren't a good addition for consoles.

I don't want to make the list but it's been a phenomenon that started last year and is going on hard-mode this year.

My question is...

Why?

Should sony do something about it?

Can they do something about it?

What would be effect of this next gen?

For the ones asking what are those "console exclusives gone rogue".
Nier
Hellblade
Crash
Edith Finch
No Man's Sky
Firewatch

thanks zombie9ers for the help. 😉

I have never even thought of those games as exclusives, they have been at least on the PC (I think?) as well so it's been just a matter of time when that they have found their way on even more platforms. Sony hasn't even marketed them as exclusives very strongly, or perhaps I've missed it. They certainly put a lot more emphasis on their true exclusives, which have been stellar. Crash was originally made by Naughty Dog, but at the time Sony hadn't bought them yet so the rights to Crash have belonged to Activision I guess.

So I think it's not really accurate to say that Sony is losing exclusives, because they have never been true exclusives in the first place.

-Because we talking about 3rd party games.

-No because PS4 was selling great even before got some must have exclusives.

-They can, but they dont need and they dont want.

-It probably want have effect on next gen.

People need to realise that best selling game on PS4 and XB1 are multi platform games, not exclusives, for instance in top 10 best selling games PS4 games 9 of them are multiplatform games.

Not really losing them. They were never confirmed to be exclusive in the first place.

A bunch of timed exclusive's timed exclusivity runs out! Everybody panic!

For those asking for a list:

Former PS4 Console Exclusives
-Nier Automata
-Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
-Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy
-No Man's Sky

Series that were Playstation exclusives in previous generations going to other platforms on the remasters or newest releases
-Grandia (Grandia remaster is Switch exclusive)
-Spyro Reignited Trilogy
-Valkyria Chronicles

Former Playstation exclusives going to PC
-Yakuza (also hints of going to Xbox in the future)

Grandia released on Sega Saturn (1997) 2 years before PlayStation (1999).

Crash has sold many times more on playstation than all other platforms combined so I think they accomplished their goal by keeping it timed exclusive.

Years ago, when I saw FF XIII announced for the 360 I realized one thing, if the console manufacturer doesn't own the developer, the "exclusivity" is as frail as a house of cards.

There have been a few notable exceptions that I've noticed like the Persona series (the main games at least) staying PS exclusives for over a decade now as well as SMT (Main eries) staying Nintendo-exclusive for at least 20 years or so?. Yet other deals like Disgaea which I thought were rock solid with Sony ended up on the Switch not so long ago. My suggestion is to take the third party "exclusives" as "side-dishes" and focus on the main output coming from the first party developers.

It's more important to own the IP or individual games rights than the developer (Bayonetta 2 and 3 being owned by Nintendo, Crash Bandicoot not being a Naughty Dog owned property, etc)

A lot of these games were niche, but then performed way better than the developer thought it would. It feels like Japanese devs are doing really well this gen compared to last and I think it's partially due to the success of the PS4. I think a lot of these games may go multi but won't see the same success on the PS4. If they don't, next gen they will do the and where they will release as a times exclusive and probably release later on the Xbox.

Is it means more people get access to these games, then that's great as far as I'm concerned.
Same goes for Microsoft's policy of putting all their first party on PC. I don't know if it's a good business decision, but I'm glad I can try out Recore without spending hundreds of dollars.
