Forums - Sony Discussion - Is Sony missing great potential without a gaming phone.

1) Sony isn't trying to catch Apple/ Samsung. They are trying to make their mobile business profitable. These are not the same thing.

2) Sony has already released similarly matched spec phones as the razr and Asus Rog.

3) Mobile game getting bigger doesn't really change anything for Sony making phones. This is old news.

4) What exactly is the benefit of having a specific Sony phone capable of connecting to the PS4 over just putting remote play/ ps now in any capable phone?

5) why would they need to look at the switch for as an idea for the future? Switch is out and PS4s are selling like crazy even at their current price tag. You'll probably see a future SKU that is similar to switch maybe.

1. Yes they are they are competing within the circles of Apple and Samsung at the same time sandwiched with less popular phone. If they want their phones to explode then they need to do something different. No Company will just being happy with being profitable or only profiting little.

2. What I meant is not just the specs but a phone dedicated for games that will have their own portfolio of games, exclusive add on an such like ROG Phone is having.

3. It will be bigger as time goes not just with gatcha games but with solid games.

4. you don't need internet.

5. because that can potentially sell their phones. They might find success again in trying again to have their phone lines have exclusive game feature that is not available on other phones.

Yes it is. But they need to divide their resource to make another gadget.

For now SCIE are full with PS4 , PS VR, PS Now, PS Online, Games Studios and future PS5 . Just let they focusing on PS5 first and let PS brand getting more bigger. Once the time comes, i think they will making it in the end.

SCIE doesn’t need to fully support it. Sony already has Forwardwork that is dedicated for mobile.

It’s their phone division that needs to do it. Build up a studio for it. Like Sony Music they are the ones handling Fate on mobile.

Or outsourcing from 3rd party devs.

It is impossible for them to get rid of android at this point. The thing that drives phones sales is apps not games. Sony can of course build their own so called PlayStation phone but it will be switch rival at best. I don’t see why would developers start to develop apps to yet another mobile OS when the market has iOS and Android. It will flop like windows phone.

This has probably already been pointed out, but they had one. It was called Xperia Play, and I owned one at one point. It was a “PS Official Product”, and even had the face buttons, D-pad, shoulder buttons, and two sensors that acted as the dual analogue. It was a really cool phone, but the Problem was it used Sony’s own Xperia Play Store, instead of Google Play, which was weird because it was Android OS. Needless to say, it wasn’t remotely successful.

I already mentioned it on my post. 😂 It failed badly because they don’t know what to do with it.

But with ROG phone and Razr phone they can have an Xperia line for those market. If they cannot beat Apple and Samsung on the mobile space then maybe they can find success with mobile gaming space.

They can, but only if Sony partners with Google and puts access to as many games as possible Xperia Play was cool little phone, but I literally felt I could count the entire games library on one hand, which is super dissapointing given how it was specifically designed for games.

1) Sony are still I the restructuring stages of their mobile division. It's neither consistently stable nor consosconsis profitable for their goals to be anything but sustainability. If you think Sony is thinking of leapfrogging stability and growth to be the on the level of Apple or Samsung, then yout aren't seeing the full picture

2) this doesn't sound sustainable. Add ons is not going to give Sony a commercially appealing phone. They aren't going to put the resources into dedicated games when they already bave a dedicated game developer to make iOS/ android games.

3) this doesn't change anything for Sony.

4) With PSnow rumoured to get download support and digital sales increasing year by year, your 'dont need internet's is somewhat archaic. Most ppl don't care that they need internet for anything. It's almost an expectation of life on whole.

5) potentially. Might. Yeah, possibly. But these gamer phones are really niche. And as mentioned, Sony already has similar specs phones and they are not cheap either. Price is a Sony problem in regards to their phones.

Yeah, I always thought Sony gave up too easily after the Xperia Play. A Vita-like device with something like a hybrid Android OS with access to both the Android library and their own PSP/Vita/PSX + etc library just sounds amazing with how powerful mobile hardware has become.

Sony is missing out on it. But I wouldn't mind that because they're just too stupid when it comes to mobile.
