The PS3 is a failure because it cost Sony billions of dollars. It doesn't matter how much it sold considering it wasn't profitable in the slightest. Nintendo could sell the Nintendo Switch for 150 bucks and easily beat the PS4 but to what avail? Profitability is more important.

Well the funny thing is PS3 system already gain some revenue as we speak and PS4 day one since 2013 already making profit. And also PlayStation got more revenue in PS3 and PS4 era through PS network and PS Plus. And also on marketing share and popularity PS brand is already beating Nintendo and more mainstream then Nintendo and Xbox.

This has nothing to do with my post about PS3 being a failure.

And your need to post that PS3 was a failure on a sales commemoration thread was?

Check this : https://www.neogaf.com/threads/sony-playstation-home-console-shipments-reach-370-million-worldwide-data-inside.1023022/

Doesn't really tell us much more than we already know.

Known sales PS3 at 74.1m

Known sales PS2 at 155.1m

Unknown sales PS2+ PS3 at 16.5m.

If you estimate PS2 at 156.5m or 157.5m, then that means PS3 sold >89.2m or >88.2m as of March 31 2015. However the PS3 didn't end shipments until October 2016 for USA and ~May 2017 for Japan.

So either the PS2 sold ~160m or the PS3 sold quite a bit more than we think.

Quite the opposite, it tell us that  ps2 has sold 158m and ps3 89m at maximum.

As for Japan, https://www.neogaf.com/threads/media-create-sales-week-52-2016-dec-26-jan-01.1331314/...

As for the USA, sales of ps3 were 10k in November 2016...

Sony shipped just 300k less than Wii u  in FY14/15 while sales of wiiu were much higher in the NA and Japan  and probably the same in Eu, take into account that shipments increased only by 200k in the quarter of holidays than the previous quarter, sony had likely overshipped it in FY14/15.

73.9m* not 74.1m

@bold, it fits with exactly what I said "or PS3 sold quite a bit more than we think". Most people leave PS3 estimates at 86m, being close to 90m is pretty good.

Well for those who wanted or were thinking about getting a Pro and the Spider-man Edition wasn't to your liking, here's something that's not near as flashy, but flashier than a stock plain black or white console. Mind you $499 vs $399 due to some potentially unwarranted additional items.

This thing looks great. Just translucent enough, but not too clear. I really really like it, especially the copper accents. I wonder if they chose copper for more than just the color though. Copper is a sign of health and is literally healthy for you in small doses. Some hospitals use copper instead of stainless steel in some cases because bacteria and viruses have an extremely hard time surviving on copper. This is also why copper is used for meditation and stuff like that because it's apparently also supposed to remove and repel negative energy. (Fortnite? Xplay?)

This thing will be long sold out before a RDR2 edition/bundle lands. Heck, even the packaging is translucent.

Where can I see the packaging? Sounds neat!

Congratz to Sony, thats one sexy console (probably my favorite looking console of all time).
