I'm no japanese, but between Ys viii, The Lost Child, BattleChasers: Nightwar, Shining Resonance and Octopath Traveller I had to make hard decisions in the RPG-department. I've gone with BattleChasers and Octopath and both didn't disappoint. As I love RPGs, I'll pick up the other titles too over time, but for now I have enough.

how is battlechasers? i am really considering having that as my next game and holding off on octopath traveler

Well, Octopath clearly is the cooler game, but also more expensive. I like BattleChasers, the combat system is cool, story and characters are likeable. But on the overworld map you walk a very simple stylized map, which may be too simple graphically and actionwise for some. Only on some places you have a real area to explore. Hmm, let me illustrate this with screens.

This is the overworld map. You walk this basically. You follow defined paths (outlayed with these white dots) and see fights from afar (the red circle with monster inside in the upper left):

On some things you have more normal 3D-environments, like these. It includes fights, sometimes puzzles and stuff to find like chests.

The fights are good old turn-based. The overcharge is a nice touch for the battle system. Normal attacks generate additional mana called overcharge that is lost after the fight. So if you only use special abilities that take mana after you generated enough mana, you stay the same. For boss fights this will not be enough. But there are also special abilities that grow stronger with more overcharge. So you can decide to unleash something special now or attack some more normal to gain overcharge.

The characters are fine, but you have a fixed party, no character you can create. You chose perks with level-ups though.

Pretty solid mid-tier RPG if you ask me. But it probably depends on the tastes, I can think some people are thrown off by this overworld map.

So I hope this helps you decide on BattleChasers. But if you like turn-based RPGs, Octopath so far as I played is real cool, you shouldn't hold out on it. Really, I'm happy I chose both, but if I had to decide I would still go with Octopath first.

Forgot to point out last time but PS4 doesn't look like a hot item atm. Hardware revision is needed in Japan, PS5 is a last 2 or 3 years away.

Less hardware revision and more price-drop. PS4 is still at 30k JPY after 5 years. If Sony wants to sell a decent amount the second half of this year they should drop the price. I don't think Sony will do that as long as its still the global sales leader though. So when we see the Switch start to compete in global sales on a regular basis then I think we'll see Sony drop PS4 price around the world.

A revision would be nice, but from what I know of Japan's tastes in this regard, reduced size and power draw would be the way to go.  Basically a PS4 Slim+ or something.  Problem is, I don't know if that's viable.  The Slim was achieved thanks to a die shrink, moving from the older 28nm fabrication process to the newer 16nm.  So the question is, can a smaller Slim and Pro be made without another die shrink?  If not, then that's a problem since iirc, 16nm is about the best there is and the cutting edge 7nm process is still a ways off from being available at the necessary pricepoint.

So I agree with Megiddo, a price cut is the better option for the here and now.

For short term gains, a revision is the way to go. But before long, the baseline would revert back to where it is, if not lower.
For the long run, the answer is a price cut.

PS4 released later in Japan so its closer to 4 years than 5, not that that really changes your point.

I think Pokemon Let's go P/E will flop by Pokemon sales standard with a 500-600k opening week. I still didn't get why Junichi Masuda is trying so hard to bring Pokemon Go crowd into mainline series. By removing random battle and introducing overpriced gimmicky peripheral for an exclusive Pokemon are really putting some mainline Pokemon fans away from this title.

Instead of pulling the mobile crowd into switch why didn't they double down the nostalgia factor of original R/B/G Pokemon series and bringing it back the old players.
Smash Bros Ultimate, on the other hand, is going to break the record of past games in the opening week. Sakurai planned perfectly with the game direction, unlike Masuda.
My prediction for Smash Bros Ultimate = 1.2 Million units FW

Nintendo games, especially Nintendo's big and stronger IPs are selling great on Switch, in general Switch games are selling much better on Switch compared to 3DS. They were very clear about Pokemon Lets Go, its more causual Pokemon game that attracts more wider audience than core Pokemon game, yes some core Pokemon fans will not buy this game (but most of Pokemon will probably buy it in any case) but there will also be quite new people that didnt play before Pokemon core games. Also they were clear that core Pokemon game is coming next year.

I dont say maybe we want have 500-600k sales in opening week, but with all things on mind, we can expect quite good sales for Pokemon Go in any case.

Yes, normal 1st party Nintendo games are having a growth when they were released on the switch such as Zelda, Splatoon, and Mario series, but the problem with Pokemon Let's Go is they are trying to focus toward another different audience than normal core switch and pokemon fans. If they made normal 3rd version game with HD graphics and additonal contents then there's no doubt the sales trajectory would follow the similar patent as other 1st party titles.

They are discouraging those core pokemon game fans by making a lot of strange decision.

1. Masuda and PR team keep saying this game is aiming casual crowd from Poke GO.

2.  Big gameplay change compared to normal pokemon games such as no normal wild pokemon battle.

3. Implementation of Go catching mechanics.

4. Graphics look underwhelming compared to other 1st party titles like Xenoblade2, Zelda BOTW, and Mario games.

5. The real mainline Pokemon game is on 2019.

Masuda has hugely overestimated those GO players by hoping a smooth transition from Mobile Pokemon GO with online functionality as a main feature to Single player pokemon game with limited online functionality and at the same time alienating the hardcore fans with their PR and gameplay changes.

HD 3rd Version game like Pokemon Z or Pokemon Star =  17-20 Million easily because of Switch active core players + mainline Pokemon fans

Pokemon Let's GO Pikachu/Eevee = under 11 Million.

Maybe it want be best selling Pokemon game, but I expecting good sales in any case.

I dont think nothing strange in those decisions (I dont recall they said this game is aimed only to crowd from Pokemon Go), it very simple, this Pokemon game aimed to more casual and wider audience compared to core Pokemon Go, its not relly hard to understand. People that tryed game are saying that game has more similar things with core Pokemon games not with Pokemon Go.

Anything between 10m and 20m in sales for Pokemon Let's Go is possible.

A new splatoon bundle, a somewhat big JRPG released, and preorders opened up for smash and pokemon. 2017 switch sales in japan are gonna make 2018 look really bad in the upcoming weeks, 50k is surprisingly low.

Agree, ps4 is too low
