Forums - Nintendo - Mario Tennis Aces Opencritic/Metacritic thread. (79 Opencritic)/(77 Metacritic)

Seems Nintendo botched the local multiplayer (no stage select? Wtf) but hopefully the online is up to par (I can't believe I have to hope for this, but I hope I can play against friends).

Baffling. Absolutely baffling. But also the kind of thing that can be rectified with a patch.

Seems like a solid offer as I'm pretty sure most who played the demo already knew. I don't see online play mentioned much. Was that not available for the review period?

I'm not very happy with those scores. I guess it's mediocre for a Nintendo game. I'm thinking of getting this to play with my daughter.

Edit: I feel like I say that about a lot of Nintendo games these days. I get them so I can play them with my family. Odd... Maybe it's because my childhood memories are playing Nintendo games.

Can't get a read on those reviews. It seems nobody has even tried to turn off the new mechanics in favor of a more simple play. I guess I'll see soon enough how good the single player actually is.

Solid score for Mario Tennis game, for comparision Mario Tennis for Wii U has 58 metascore score.

higher than i was gonna give it. I was coming to the thread to say 72

It sounds like a bit of a mixed bag - excellent mechanics but hamstrung by a short, simplistic single-player mode which suffers from difficulty spikes, and it sounds like the options for single-player v CPU and local multiplayer are extremely limited. Sounds like the online mode still suffers from lag, too, though obviously reviewers haven't had the opportunity to test it extensively.

So while it's an improvement on Ultra Smash, it sounds like Aces hasn't quite delivered on its promise. Given free DLC characters are coming, I'd hope Camelot and Nintendo tighten up and flesh out the options available to single players (better tournament options, rule changes etc) and to those who want to play local multiplayer.

No one has mentioned anything about ranked played or similar. It would be pretty disappointing if there isn't any way to play against the better players.

Just what I was thinking. I'm sure that if the demand is great enough, Nintendo will at least listen.

I'm curious to see how well this will sell. Kirby managed to hit 1 million after 7 or 8 weeks. I wonder if this game can do the same.

It took 5 weeks for Kirby to sell through 1 million according to Nintendo did it not?

For the only major release on Switch so far this year it's score is a bit lack luster.

I was expecting better.
