Forums - Gaming - Cyberpunk is a first person shooter RPG, play as male or female

Ya, I take some exception to anyone who claims they were a CDPR fan, and then writes off Cyberpunk, and CDPR, just because it's first person. If that's the case, I submit that you were never a CDPR fan. You are just a fan of a specific type of game, that CDPR happened to be providing for a while. If, during the time they were doing so - and doing it expertly - you never gained enough respect for them, that you trust them to be capable of delivering an equally amazing game, which isn't simply carbon copy of the formula their last series followed….well, again, you never became a CDPR fan. You just want more of that thing you always wanted before you ever knew CDPR was a thing, and now that they're choosing to do something different - though STILL a full blown RPG mind you - you care as little about their game as you did before you ever heard their name.

I swear, seeing people's reaction you'd think CDPR was pulling a Konami, making pachinko machines or something.

It's fine if all you care about is a very specific type of game, and you don't believe this can scratch your itch. Just don't tell me that this is CDPR betraying their fans, or some other complete nonsense like that. A studio that has made 3 amazing RPGs, is making what honestly sounds like MORE of an RPG than their previous games, based on what we've heard about player choices, classes, character customization/creator (which Witcher didn't even have), different backstories that affect how NPCs react to you throughout the game (ala DA: Origins), etc....

Please, for the love of god, miss me with some of this ludicrously entitled whining about a camera perspective in a brand new, original game, which you've never even seen gameplay of.

I agree with this so much.

Without devs/publishers like CDPR we could be on the road to a future full of Football games ,COD like shooters and mobile crap.

I praise new unique projects.

So well said, especially this part in bold. I'll necro bump the hate in this thread, just when the 1st gameplay footage becomes available and everyone whinning in here, will make a 180°turn praising CDPR again!

Do people really hate first-person that much now?

The game looks interesting and first-person is more immersive for me, so Im in.

I think fatigue is probably setting in for a lot of people. FPS ARE a little over done, don't you think?

Maybe that was the case last gen but not now at least not for me. I haven't even played a proper FPS since since last gen. The majority of games I've played this gen are third-person action games. I've avoided the multiplayer fps's like COD and Battlefield not because they are Fps's but because i'm not big on multiplayer. It's nice to have a Singleplayer Fps.

Walking around in first person perspective, shooting shit for me is just... enough already. Only Halo interests me at this point with regards to that sort of thing because I got invested in the story back in 2003 and want to see it to the end. But everything else is just, no. I can't take it anymore lol.

That's okay it's your opinion. but the way i see it being third-person isn't going change the gameplay significantly.

Such a fucking embarassing thread , both sides overeacting

50/50 even objective split?.

Naw. One side is happy with the chosen camera style, the other is stamping their foot about having the same exact expectations of a company they only recently got on board with.

The other is questioning as to why they are doing this, as well as trying to find logical reasons as to why a dev needs to change their game for just them and no one else.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Completely agreed.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Hey, it's not my fault that you didn't make a better analogy.  Don't blame me for pointing that out.  The avenue was there for you to make a more sensible comparison.  Aesthetics are not mechanics.  You tried to present the lack of TPP as being on the same level as a hand-cranked car when you know it's nowhere close.  That's your fault.

The entire point of what I said was that, "claiming it's some kind of integral part of the genre simply isn't true."  If you're admitting that now then what is your problem?

As for TES, you're talking about removing a feature from a series as opposed to starting a series without that feature being present from the start.  That's not the same thing and you know it.  Unless you're saying that no one is going to buy Cyberpunk?  If that's the case then just go ahead and say that.

Oh hey, cool, the point continues to fly over your head even though I pointed it out to you. Not only that, but you insist on implying the only important thing is game mechanics, because apparently nothing else matters. That's why every game ever made uses basic representative geometric shapes on simple colored backdrops. Games also don't tell stories, either, because that has nothing to do with the game mechanics.

Wait, those things do matter. In fact, the setting of the game we're talking about is one of the most anticipated aspects of it. And no, I'm not saying no one is going to get Cyberpunk. That would be ridiculous.

But a lot of people who were interested based on previous CDPR games no longer are.

You want me to ignore that you made a poor analogy and just accept what you were trying to say but failed at?  The funny thing is, I probably would have ignored it had you not tried to pat yourself on the back for it.  Alright, though, we'll forget about your hand-cranked car.

Also, there is no need to lie.  Never once did I say the "only important thing is game mechanics."  Never once have I said anything about the story not being important.  Stop that strawman shit, it's fucking lame.

The argument I made in the first post that you quoted was that "being able to see your character customization isn't an integral part of the genre."  That's what you disagreed with.  Argue against that or go away.

Seriously, let's just go to the bottom line.  If visible character customization via playable TPP is as important as you say, then Cyberpunk will sell badly and review badly.  Are you willing to commit to that?  Or will you make an excuse?

I'm sorry but I checked out the second they said it would be in First Person. Extremely disappointing for me. Nothing technically wrong with that but I just prefer games in 3rd Person, especially in my RPG. After dealing with an Entire Generation (PS360) forgetting genres other than FPS exist and my most beloved genre taking a heavy back seat(RPGs) compared to previous gens, I am just disgusted at the thought. I also find the perspective to be immersion shattering with the frequent hand sticking into the line of sight. Few games really portray First Person correctly, Mirror's Edge was one hence why I tolerated it for a bit, and then there was Killzone whom effectively placed the camera in your chest instead of head.

I don't even play Fallout or Elder Scrolls in 1st. I would rather deal with there slightly wonky 3rd. Hopefully they implement it because I am dying for more hyper Scifi RPG after Horizon and Technomancer.
