Take away Smash and Pokemon, and there wasn't much there. Then again. Maybe that's because they know those two games are all they need for this holiday season. Both are 10m+ sellers.

Bit of a letdown it's just Smash Wii U as well. No change to the formula. New characters and stages which is fine, but for as much as they were saying "It's a new game" it really wasn't. Not that I didn't really expect it, but would have been nice to be surprised.

How did smash wiiu change the formula? Or for that matter how did melee and brawl change the formula? This most definitely is not smash Wii u, that was obvious from the first few seconds of the trailer.

What should i rate? The smash direct? This was the lowest E3 i have ever seen. Even worst than the 2015 E3. I dont know how much Crystal Meth the Nintendo Marketing is using but it seems like alot. No sane person would make such an idiotic Direct. They could have announced smash and than show those things in the treehouse or a smash direct sometime in the next weeks or so. Do we have to wait now always on the 4 hours long game awards to see new nintendo titles? Nintendo u fucked up. I dont care if smash will sell 50 million. U still fucked up for me. That was the lowest of the lowest.

You must not have been following E3 for that long. Either that or you're showing a classic case of impulsive internet outrage. You say what Nintendo had to show was the worst E3? You obviously don't remember Sony in 2006, Nintendo in 2008, or Microsoft in 2010 and 2013. Or for a more recent example, just look at EA's show last Saturday. We've seen far worse from E3 in the past. If anything, Nintendo's show is easily a 6/10 and would have been a 9/10 if Metroid was present.

Guess I should consider myself lucky I didn't watch it?

Yes, but you do have to live in a world where it happened though.

That's cool. E3 has long since stopped informing my purchase and gaming decisions.

Also, the prospect of playing a new Mario Party with friends and family sounds like tons of fun! It's been so long.

Yeah who am I kidding, while the games aren't in the forms I was hoping for, they're still Smash n Pokemon. That's a killer 1-2 punch for the holidays. Also yes 20m was official, but I can't be bothered to get a source right now, please understand.

You're right. It was quite easy to find. It's also FY '19, so even less reason to think they couldn't do it.

added new modes like 8 player Smash, added For Glory and For Fun, added online tournament mode, added stage creator, changed the speed of fighting to not be as slow as Brawl but not as fast a melee, added stage bosses such as metalface in gaur planes, added Amiibo support, was the first hd 1080p 60fps Smash. Off the top of my head.

Agreed. I really don't understand the "It's just a port of Smash Wii U/It's not very different from Smash Wii U" criticism. Ever since Melee, every new Smash game has just been a slight tweak to the formula and fighting mechanics, with bigger, badder, and more content then ever before. Ultimate looks to continue that trend, so why is it suddenly a problem now?

They didn't change the formula, but they did add loads of new content, features, modes, etc. That's the problem with your list, you leave out how much is actually new. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe isn't a new game just because they added a real battle mode, a few new characters/karts and some mechanic tweaks.

Let's be honest. E3 has never really been a factor is gamers deciding what to buy. Sega Saturn's forced Spring 1995 launch was one of many factor's that led to that system's failure and it would have happened with or without E3. Sony's $600 PS3 was going to be a turnoff to gamers wether there was an E3 or not. Nintendo had arguably their worst E3 in 2008 and yet that turned out to be one of their most financially prosperous years ever. Microsoft's piss poor show at E3 2010 didn't matter because Kinect sold well that year. Xbox One in 2013 would have sold poorly regardless of of E3.

How do you know this game won't have any new features? Do you think they spoiled everything about the game 6 months from launch?

Brawl had a stage creator. I wouldn't really call most of what you said changing the formula. Nice little additions but far from changing the formula.
