How did smash wiiu change the formula? Or for that matter how did melee and brawl change the formula? This most definitely is not smash Wii u, that was obvious from the first few seconds of the trailer.

They didn't change the formula, but they did add loads of new content, features, modes, etc. That's the problem with your list, you leave out how much is actually new. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe isn't a new game just because they added a real battle mode, a few new characters/karts and some mechanic tweaks.
