Can't see how it wouldn't. The X hurt XBO sales, and that was a mid-gen upgrade. Announcing you have a next gen console, that sounds like it'll hit next year, has got to do something. They're going to have to perma-drop to $199 soon to combat that.

Next gen is clearly going to be pushing technology however what about those PC ports, do all these devs think that PC gamers are going to be running with 10+ TF gaming PCs on average just to run PS5/XB2 games? They barely have 4TF on average, does that mean next gen games wont work on PCs? Because if it can work on a low level PCs than it can work on the X, and MS will make sure that's the case if they go that PC route.

The funny part is that most of VGC assumed X1X was revealed more than a year in advance as a counter to PS4Pro, but in the end it probably hurt X1 sales much more than PS4 or PS4Pro.

Will be curious to see how long X1 and X1X will keep after Scarlet releases.
Because as you said cross gen certainly will happen. But for X1/X1X to be truly forward compatible (end of generation) you should only need to insert game made for next gen on it and it would run normally, no need for 2 versions (The patches for PS4Pro/X1X are only needed because some games didn't finish when releasing, but you would still run same disc on both versions of the same platform).

MS could keep X1X and even X1 compatible to Scarlet, as long as they keep same architeture, which considering the CPU will be even worse than they just dropping both behind and pretending they never said anything about end of gen.
But if they really aren't compatible you won't see any fan that defended this coming to admit they were wrong.

Talking about the average PC gamer, from memory the average PC gamers Rig was around the 4tf if I am correct at the end of last year.
